I'v never had any problems with my V-Maxes, and I've on my 5th… Also, check that your fan kicks on when the needle get just over 3/4… The Guage use to have a tinny Dot at that position… CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE FAN IS WORKING…
There was a kid in high school who bought one of those brand-spanking-new. And he actually drove it the first night up to the cruise where everybody cruises up on State Avenue here in Kansas City Kansas. And he ripped it up and watched it and that whole bike jumped up in the air about a foot off the ground and he Full Throttle dit when it did that when it hit the ground it flipped a wheelie and went flying down the parking lot and slammed into a steel pole. It was the most funniest thing I've ever seen in my life..
VMAXs always run warm. The stalling out at less than max temp and the flat spot (engine warmed to operating temp) at take off are signs of a bigger prob. They are cold blooded motors and dont troll well when cold. Not the kind of bike you can jump on and ride away.
Well explained nice video. I have the same sorta problem with my 85 V-Max . Runs fine gets Hot and shuts down. Carbs off and cleaned but not completely apart. got some intake boots to replace the old ones that are cracked and very worn out. You r right about the fuel. But i think it is something to do with the elrictrical system. Pressure sensure . starter relay and the pick up coils. four orange wires to the control mod. These carbs are a Pain in the But to take apart and repair I don't care what any one says.Any one I'm here to listen for some help.I will comment on the results on the new intake boots when i install them. I love this Bike. One of a kind!!!! Live to Ride…
I have a 1996 Yamaha VMAX. The two spark plugs on the right are running rich the two spark plugs on the left seem to be normal. What would cause this? It only has 17,000 miles on it. I was told maybe from sitting on the jack stand leading to the left the floats on the right might be bad???

This is the first Musti1 video I watched. hard to believe that it's been over 10 years.
Thank god for fast forward.
The problem is most likely the 37.5 pilot jets in the jetblocks clogged.
Rubber plugs in jet block leaking internally cause rich condition same carbs on the venture. High Temp gauge reading is normal on mk1 and vmaxs
👋☕️⚖️
I owned 3 – 1200cc Yamaha Vmax's that black cylinder with the needle on it is $100.00 bucks a pc.

Thinking about buying a used Vmax, anyone know the best years? or years to avoid? Thanks Mustie, always enjoy these vids..

This bike with these carbs is a pain in the arse. Ive taken my carbs off 5 times rebuilt them and still cant get rid of the flat spots in the throttle

cracked coils also make the vmax over heat.
Hey Mustie 1 I also am having similar issues with my 86 vmax. we all would like an update.

I see someone mention no follow up to this vid., did you get it sorted? Thanks.
