A good welder in the shop really comes in handy. I've got a powertig welder and an everlast mig welder and I use both regularly for repairs. I've never used that kind of oil for rust proofing before. It looks like something I might try.
Hi Mustie1, Can't you just clean the frame to bare metal and add metal plate large enough that it touches all good frame and weld instead of cutting the frame out? I mean I am not good welder so was wondering?
What a shame, yotas are such good vehicles except the frames. I'm in the same boat with my 96 taco, it's not as bad as your 4 runner was but the repair shop won't put it on the lift anymore so time to repair the frame. What thickness metal did you use and what kind of welder, mig or stick? How did that chain bar oil work on the inside, has it helped your repair hold up??Thanks for sharing. Subbed and liked ;-}}
The funny thing for me is when you were talking about what to cut the bar and chain oil with, I was thinking about commenting "C'mon D-man, man up and cut it with gasoline, it'll only be like making a bomb until the fumes disapate!" LOL But I didn't and you cut it with gas anyway!!! Too funny. Didya make sure there was no open flames? (grin)
I dunno, though, didn't look so bad everywhere else, I guess higher up and in some hidden places it could be rusted but shoot, the main suspension attachment issue is solid and the frame is stronger than ever now. I'll bet the ride actually feels different now!

The cheapest spray on wax is the best rust protection!!!!☺
Yes!!
Auto paint wax!!
Good thing you have your own welder. That saves you a ton of money. My everlast welder was the best investment I've ever made.
