I know VWs aren't your favorite to work on, but I appreciate you doing it again as these are my favorite videos. I mean I watch you work on small motors and other projects but always look forward to a new VW video. Love the way you figure things out and offer explanations to us less experienced home mechanics.

Another VW necromancy video.. not the worst corpse to begin with, nevertheless.. pure wizardry. Thanks !

    Wouldn't a foot-switch sometimes be fantastic to trigger the starter ? ๐Ÿ˜…
(Couple pieces of wood and a spring.. a box where the hand switch fits in…)

im sure it rod bearing is danged (broken) or loosen
because it fire too early before piston make it to top end and it blew start plug out and broken rob bearing
    it happened sometimes
one reason that lights start come back on because not getting enough oils pressure dure to oil leaking out of rod bearing cause it stalled out whiles idles

reason they stop driving it because they knew it was knocking so they didnt want spent any more money on it so they push in barn left it like it is
one reason front end is bend was cause by ran into other vehicle or it was tow behide and wen too late to stop so crash into rear of vehicle cause front end bend

Mustie1, couldn't you use the top of the passenger rear fender to fix the red one you were working on awhile back??? You did some body work to it, i believe you put a headliner in it. Maybe even a motor.

At least your Craigโ€™s list ad can say โ€œit ran when parkedโ€โ€ฆ

The starter is the real hero! Would love to see a breakdown of the engine to find the knock.

The convertible bugs and Ghias had extra reinforcement channels welded along both sides of the pan. But they rust after decades of neglect. I had a girlfriend who purchased a convertible bug. I checked it out and could tell that they rotted…. She was dejected by that discovery… Bummer! My friend and I did some drilling, grinding and welding. We replaced them with new replacement parts. It was a snap.

I worked on one of those about 33 years ago… and it had more rust than that (being a Michigan car). It was actually in an Automotives class at a local community college. We had to replace the complete exhaust and headers on it (with used ones) as well as the starter and battery and the teach rebuilt the entire wire harness for the back and we put it in. We also did plugs, wires, belts, filters, and oil. We also mounted 4 new tires. The body was pretty good on it, but there was a lot of rust underneath. We were not in auto body, but the teacher did replace a few panels underneath and did some welding. We hit some of the other rust with some wire wheels and cleaned it up as best we could… then painted anything that needed it. The car was for a friend of the teacher and it looked and ran pretty good considering what it was like when it came in.
