a friend was tired of fixing this old 4 wheeler and decided to purchase a new one, so I made an offer for this one, lets see what it has for problems and try to correct them,

Hey guys, how's it going I Picked myself up a new used four-wheeler I was actually at the local Diner and a uh conversation came up with the waitress about a four-wheeler that they had and um said that needed some work. They went and had the carburetor cleaned out a while ago and it worked for a little while and then it started acting up all over again. It just needs some love. I said you maybe just be better off getting a new carburetor if that's the case and uh, they said well think about getting a new four-wheeler and says so, what do you want for the old one So we have ourselves a new used four-wheeler and needs some love.

he can tell front TIR is going flat, it's got run issues with it and who knows, whatever else that we kind of bring up with it. Let me go close that door for a second and we'll do a walk around and get a better look at it. There you go, that's better. I'm not sure if I said it already so it's a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak 400 and it's fourwh drive, two wheel drive, automatic, high and low range with a win set up.

They primarily used it more for like using it around in the yard. It really wasn't too much of like a four-wheeler to go riding the trails with. uh I believe they did most of it again was plowing snow. It came with a plow.

There's a plow blade right over there for it, hence the winch on the front it set up and uh you doing in summertime, hauling a trail around, picking up leaves, firewood, that kind of thing. It's pretty decent. it's not all beat up. usually you get stuff like this in our area.

all the Plastics are tie wrapped back together again. the rims are you know. Square when he got it I think they said they had it for about 10 or 15 years. not sure of that and when he first got it he put a new seat cover on it.

he put got new decals ordered for it and all that kind of stuff that you know. clean it up and make it look decent. It's main issue right now I believe is just that the fact that when you go to run it it anything up off idle I'll show you in the minute anything up off idle it just falls on its FL face and dies and uh they went and had the carb cleaned once before and then after that the uh it happened all over again. So I think they were getting sick of it.

My suggestion to them was if that's the case, you may just want to go buy a new carb and try putting it on. I Go be a little bit of a painy ass just because on a four-wheeler they're You know they're pretty much enclosed and uh takes a little bit to get on to get in there to get it done. and I think at that point they were just like we're just going to go get a new one. So I came along and uh they were able to sell it to me.

you know obvious stuff you know. got front tire that goes flat on it. the front um push bar is a a little beat up up you know part for the course for our area we are very Rocky and woodsy terrain bias. you can see the front's kind of smashed up and again they put a plow on it and did not own a welder so they did the best they could for trying to drill and bolt brackets up on the face of that to go get a winch mounted on there.
so we may go improve upon that. I'm not sure yet but for now let's go get her up on the lift and we'll start getting into it. Get that carburetor off of there, see if it's uh, savable which my guess it should be I'll show you what it does. Probably heard it when I was pulling in but so it'll start.

but you can give it a little bit of gas anything over like um right there. that's it. It's dead. you get about an eighth of a throttle and it just falls on its face and dies.

You can take the choke, you put the choke on a little bit, you get a little bit more revs out of it, but um it's a little hard to ride with that because it's an automatic and then it doesn't want to stop cuz it's revving so high. Let's get this over on the operating table and see what we can do to fix it. We're kind of on. there'll Shuffle the ass hand over a little.

There we go. I You could pop that seat out of there how thetion lock is. It's got some stuff in it like the decal put on it in our in our state. you uh, buy a decal once a year.

Snowmobiles are the same way too. There a tool kit, it looks like a starter relay sitting in there, couple of bolts and a tire at and I don't know what that's for. What do you think that is like a battery cover or something? This say wire harness? Let me get you a little closer. we'll get that battery box open.

so to get the the boot off, you have to get the plastic cover out of the way because this bracket this clamp rather is. um, just go see what happens. Oh no, it's got an aftermarket air filter in it with a hunk of wood wedging it in place. It looks like I Don't see any evidence of mice yet.

that's a good sign. These um I believe these are oil bath ones. You spray them down with oil to collect the dust. It's not terribly dirty and the box is not bad neither.

So we need to get to the carb which is going to be up inside here. My best guess? let's get these two plastic pieces off the side and I think we're probably going to have to get this and the airbox out of the way. That's how it's looking. Show you we got to get I don't know what it uses for Clips I don't know what that is.

A lot of them have like a a clip that you push in the center like a little button. This one doesn't have that. Not familiar with this. Think it'll just come out of there without breaking it.

There he goes. So I'm do that. There we go. and that's really carb is right there.

So we got some digging to do so. Let me, uh, take a few minutes, we get some of the Plastics out of our way. we get the airbox off. We may have to take this whole front assembly off to get access to it, hence that's why it's a a little bit more of a painy ass.

A motorcycle's a little bit more open. Do we need to take that off? I Think we can get around it? There we go. There's a carb. We could probably possibly even just wiggle that sideways and clean it.
But I think judging by the fact that somebody cleaned it once before and then had to go and um, do it. you know shortly thereafter, we might be better off trying to go soak that. So let me go dig. I'll get some of the stuff out of our way.

Yeah, Think we got to, uh, disconnect that fuel onoff valve on the other end. It kind of wraps around the frame. Go to wiggle the tank. You can see this is in the way.

It's probably got a screw right down the center of it. We'll get that out and a lot of times you have two fuel lines on them. It'll have a reserve and a regular. Not sure it's too dark in there to see right now.

Let's get this off. I guess I Just leave that right in there. That should give us enough lift the tank up. Yeah, we got couple of lines going to it.

Me get it set up over there, figure out how we're going to disconnect them. So this is going to be the fuel line feeding it. A lot of times they have a vacuum line that if they is not running it, shuts the fuel off. I Don't see that? Yeah, so just one fuel line.

Let's go get this pinched off and actually we got to turn it to the off position first. huh? We'll want to dump the gas that's in here anyway. Go turn that to off. We get this line off of here and get the tank out of her way.

Should have access to the carb after that. Come on, has that much gas in it anyway. which is good. Get r that crappy stuff.

Looks like we got a a dust shield to pull up. it's all tie wrapped on there. I Believe these are like the reusable ones. You can get like a a pick underneath them.

You can lift up on them. They should be able to un ratchet without destroying them. There you go. So I'm going to go work on those two hands and we can get these opened up.

We'll get this out of our way. Wiggle that out of there. It's got a breather going up through the there we go. All right now.

we can see probably a good time to uh adjust the valves that we got at this part too. There's a uh access to one of the valve covers me. We'll go look that up. My guess is probably going to be a cold adjustment, but this is our primary right here so let's get this boot off of here.

Probably take the three screws off. get this right out. Give give us a little bit of room to access this and what we got. so we have call it a choker or Emulsion I mean a Um enrichment which is going to be this cable right here which is hooked up to that that choke lever right there.

Get that off the fuel. I Noticed the um the Barb came out of the tank. It didn't come off with the hose. so that's not very good.

And then we got to get that throttle cable set up on this side off. if we're going to go, soak it, take a quick look see if there's anything else that's goofy. see the motor mount's getting a little deflected right there. just dirty time.
and chain adjuster I Don't know if that's an automatic adjustment or if you can make mechanically adjust it first. Yamaha fourstroke of this I've really ever played with so let's take a peek on the other side. Just system cables run up for the uh, winch setup. Yeah good.

Like a head temp sensor right there. It's water cooled or liquid cooled. It's going work on wiggling this out of here. We'll get this process going and get it torn down and hopefully we can get it silking while we work on something else.

Sometimes you these could be a real pleasure to try to get out. The airbox doesn't look like it's too bad here we go. Come on something. Holding this, We got a breather.

Let's get that enrichment circuit off of there. Andor Choke do the same thing. It just makes the air fuel mix richer for when it's cold so that when I was trying to use that if the carburetor wasn't working like it should. If you turn the choke on, you're um, artificially adjusting the mix.

Got a screw right there that vacuum hose can come off. Else have we got? We Got to deal with that throttle cable yet? Let's go take the three screws out of that side plate. There you go. So that's okay.

we got to get that out of there. I'm not sure if that's just stuck in there how that and that's connected might be just pressed in. Let's go give her a couple of. Wiggles I Wonder if we could take cuz that Barrel right there on the cable is not going to fit out through there.

A bit of a pain? Yes! I wonder if um, we can access the screws behind it and just take this whole uh throttle plate off? I Don't think so though. I'm going to pick away at that a little bit, see what we can come up with? Really want to get the whole carb off so we can soak it? I Pulled it up out of the way. You can kind of see it a little bit better. so I already backed it off.

This is the idle speed. It's a cable that goes around to like a thumb screw on this side. You turn it up and down and it just holds the throttle open or close for maintain the idle. I'm thinking we we can get those two Allen Wrench Allen heads out of there I Don't know if we can get to that top one, huh? We'll just take the cable right off of it.

Get it out of our way I Was kind of hoping that jacket would pull out of there still might. Let's get rid of the seal so we don't trash it. four-wheelers. you know, a lot of times going water so everything's sealed off fairly well.

Yeah, let's um, going to get the cable out of that track. we'll see I don't know if this goes right through the carburetor or if this is external link on this how it's peened over I don't quite sure again how all that's put together. It fights us too much. We're going to take the float Bowl off right where it is and try giving it a clean yeah, cut that out of there.
You can kind of see where this Barrel will come off and that makes the cable that much smaller. There we go and I started wiggling. It seems like this joint is going to be able to come apart. If not, we could probably unthread it.

but I think I I can wiggle that right out of there and pull that whole cable right out. Yeah, that worked out I was actually able to leave that in place and the cable slid right through it. All right, let's get down and dirty. get the bowl off of It Kind of.

the fuel is, um, pretty punch and I'm actually kind of wondering if it was. the fuel itself has just gotten so old again. I I Don't have much of a history far as I understood they they were using it. you know year round it wasn't like it sat for a long period of time.

Um, but if the fuel gets really bad, it will do that it. it'll make it like it'll idle but it won't rev cuz there's just not enough burn left in the fuel. It lost all of its I don't know if it's octane or it's a. come on we go.

that one's going to fight us I am using the correct screwdriver. it is not a Phillips Let's get rid of this. Get that out of way. Maybe maybe not.

Let me. um, probably going to have to go put that in the BCE and try to support that real good and see if we can get that screw out of there. You going to go? There's not much bite there. Come on.

I got um one larger size of this. Let me see if that'll work I got three different sizes. this a this isn't I don't think that's going to on it. Yeah, it's not even close.

we could. probably. um no. I guess is May We'll get in it with a whiz wheel and we'll try cutting a notch in it and just kind of make it like a regular screwdriver.

Then again, it's dripping gas so let's see if we can. uh, make that Elas Resort TR A wire cutter. Sometimes you can bite on the outer edges I'll try that and I'll try turning the the metal. There we go.

It was going to come out one way or another. Okay, now we can get to the full pool, watch a bunch of parts fall out. Think we'll try to find another one of those screws though. That was definitely egged out from the time before.

Let's see what we get. I Wouldn't say that was terribly dirty. There is a bunch of mud right here. that's um.

I'm sure floating around it might be clogging the that's enough. Definitely to clog the jet that was sitting in the very bottom of it. You know. Again, the carburetor was turned that was sitting right down in the valley where the jet was.

Let's go flip that up. Look at it. Yeah, all that mud was sitting right in the main. right there.

actually look. it's kind of bent, doesn't it? I know if it's supposed to be like that or not, the angle it's on, maybe maybe not. I think it's the float ball angle that's screwing us up. Let's go take some of the parts off of it, get the float out of it, get all the Jets off, and we'll go soak this, and we'll kind of work on something else.
So yeah, it definitely had to come apart. It was not going to fix itself by changing the fuel. There we go at that and we need little carb screwdriver will get these three out of it. We want to see where this one's a pain the ass to get to.

This is the air fuel mix. You do want the outside but again where this thing is located in the four-wheeler it's almost impossible to get that adjusted when it's running. So we're going to try to put that back right where it was. Kind of forget what I was talking about when I'm if I covered this already I apologize.

Yeah so we have. let's go count where it is. it's a half that's one 1 and 1/2 two. so two turns out is the air fuel mix.

we're going to put that on. so we have a 86. Honda for tracks I Want to say is what it is, that's a machine my wife uses but again being fourwh drive all the time even like I have when you're in really like tight are it's not bad if you're cruising down a trail, but if you're in tight areas it's a pain to try. and uh, turn to handlebars cuz it fights you.

The four-wheel drive is locked, you know? So the fact that you can put it in tool drive. there you go put in tool drive. It makes it just that much easier to steer. Plus the fact that it's an automatic, you just kind of put it in gear and you go.

These have a um a CVT transmission which is uh, a belt setup that is VAR variably adjusted. That does look a little bent though doesn't it that kind of wobbles coming out of there I'll keep an eye on that yeah that that is plugged, That's where that's so. The first one I took out was the idle and then this one's the main and every time we kept we reved it up off of the idle. That's when it would die.

So this is the one. that's our issue and that's when that sat down in that Valley of the floal with all that dirt. let's get that out of there. There we go.

Yeah it's got some crusties that kind of came out with it too and that's going to have a um a slide with a pin in it as you uh, increase the throttle that one out I think this is actually the idle one. Doesn't look too bad anything going to pop out for us. We had an O-ring Fallout I didn't catch where that was. did you see that where that fell out? Oh you know what that's going to be that's going to be on the um, probably right.

There was the seal for the uh uh air fuel mix. Let's get the top of it off. So it's a CBT transmission. constantly variable trans, that's what it is and the pulley just change size from front to rear and it changes the gear ratio.

Snowmobiles run them, some go-karts some Mini Bikes Let's go see how this setup is. We get diaphragm in here, hopefully there's no holes in this that looks decent again. I Don't see any holes I Think we can get away without doing a carb kit and got one more access point right here. It's a Boni she may even have a carb kit for this.
Let's uh, give her a couple of Wax screws out cuz they're going to get launched. Watch where that spring went. Problem with springs is they have a tendency to roll. hey I got to go find that bound.

Don't mind the dog here all. let's go see. Get this off of there cuz you want to soak that, we get some rid of some hoses. get rid of this.

I Don't think there's anything other that's going to get harmed soaking. it should be good. so let's get I'll get these lines off of here. we'll get that soaking and uh, we'll look into something else on the machine.

Couple more screws I took out that I found one more jet. We'll let them go do their thing. make sure it gets the most important parts. go under.

get in there. That should be good enough. I Going bother throwing the Jets in there I'm actually just going to go clean them by hand and like you know the crap that's on the threads here I'll hit on a wire wheel, knock that stuff off and I generally just take like a wire brush in the bristles and I go through all the little ports on everything and clean it and then just hit it with some carb cleaner unless it would like really like gummed up with like a, you know, a gunky material that the carb cleaner was going to get. Uh, it's just a pain in the ass to try to fish these out of there and doesn't seem like it does.

You know that much? the car cleaner does better on cleaning up the body of it. Another gasket of this got a lot of corrosion on it and again, you definitely can't put those in there. The tip looks pretty good. that's the needle.

It shuts the fuel off I don't think focus is getting this, but uh, that looks pretty decent now. they got aart kind of looking it over I Wonder if it might be a good time for us to try to limp this thing outside I push it outside and give it like a uh I have a steam cleaner a good time to give this thing a good cleaning cuz you're going to be opening up like those valve covers and all I just you don't want to get the crud down inside it, shove a rag inside the carb and you take it. looks like by where the spark plug hole looks like it's been, uh, leaking a little bit like the plugs. maybe not tight.

See the stains can I get you there and you see all the stains running down under the plug? Not quite sure what is going on with that and I also would like to try to get the the cover off. at some point. we'll take a inspection at that uh belt that is on there I Don't know if I get to that exhaust. there's the valve cover for the exhaust back in there.

What's the best way to access that? It's kind of looking about getting these Plastics off the front for just a. you know it hasn't been cleaned in 20 years. so I think that might be more trouble than it's worth though looking at the some of the hardware is on it. We just got to work around that.
All right. So I'm going to see. let's um, it's got a flat tire. let's go get that off of there, see if we can find out where that leak is, repair that, fill that up and then I can push it around a little bit easier.

Let's go fill it up on the machine, spray it down so you can see where it's leaking. ATV tires got really low pressure I'm GNA run a little on the high side. ATV Tires are like three pounds. Three to five pounds like it's got a decent amount of play wheel bearing wise.

let's go give her a spray down. So sometimes you look at The Rim too. and or nail, how about the Val stem Val stem's blowing bubbles? That'd be easy. the center of the Val stem.

Let's um I'm going to go spray down the inside of it too. That's the case. That's going to be about the easiest repair a lot of times. like you when you're running a four-wheeler through the woods, you uh, kind of like unseat the the bead a little bit cuz again, the tire pressure is so low you you kind of roll the the bead of the tire away a little bit and if you're in like gravel and sand, it will get dirt in it.

It's got to leak right there. so you got one in the sidewall. We'll let it kind of drip a little bit. Oh, that's that.

was a little too easy. Definitely devow them too though. Looks like it might be blowing bubbles under it. Let that set up.

We got another one there. One two. I Think the tires just got dry rot is what the issue is. I Seeing three spots.

so much for being the Val stem. Huh? May A look up this tire see if we can go find ourselves a good used one. Think anything happen in there? Yeah, starting to look like the base of it's like it's leaking everywhere. Huh? Right there too going.

let it set up. well. definitely looking like center of the valve stem is the worst of it. Let's get the middle of that out.

We could change that. Um actually I think it was tight. Try it again like it was in all the way cuz the joke there. Yeah, so that's that part of it.

Let's go make sure that stem isn't leaking as far as the tire. I may try to go find like I said. Uh, used a Dunlop on eBay for it. What's the size of that? 25 by 8 by 12 I don't think I have one.

Maybe we can try like um, a type of fix of flat or oil inside. We'll try oil I don't see a actual? It's probably a crack in the tire right there I don't see any? Um yeah I think it's a crack? yeah I know if that's showing up, there's like flexing a crack that's uh, causing its issues. Maybe we can put a patch on the inside of it we Mark where it is and and just put a patch on the inside of the wall I we had that other one too. Yeah, let's try that.

So we got one, two three I bet you going to see like the cords are kind of tore up on the inside there. There's the one here too or no and we take it like a paint stick. We'll Mark the outside. yeah do that.
I'll mark them. We'll take that tire off of going on a tire machine. Uh ATV tires can be a real to try to get off, but uh we'll do our best to get it out off of there. mark where those are.

Maybe we'll put some patches on the inside. A two will probably work too. Yeah you can literally see the crack doing its thing and the same on the other one. Let's see if we can get the bead to pop.

Okay, they do fight us. sometimes it'll just slip off the side, it won't. Um, push the bead back. see what happens? I'm at watch your fingers there we go.

Told you I to get both to go get the tire right off sh for a little bit of a helping hand. try to get up over that bead four-wheeler tires because they run such a low pressure. They have a very um tight lift that they try to pop over and not like a car tire work for us. Hopefully that comes off this other lip.

There it goes. So I picked up a a patch kit and a tube so take a look at the inside of the tire what it looks like missed it. try that again. I think I angled it wrong.

Go. It's a little nub you got to be over. That's got it. See all the dirt I was talking about.

This room has it too. Generally that's a lot of times where you get like a bead leak from all the sand and the dirt that kind of gets rubbed into the edge of the tire in the rim. Let's get all that crap off of there and uh, go someplace else. We can see what we got.

well a little dark. it's kind of get an idea. So I transferred the marks from the other side where they were and you you can see I I thought it would have been more visible and get a less light. Can I see how that white line is going across it that looks like a where the crack is on the other side and there's one more down here like that one's really I think that was the worst one and it's like the least defined.

Like I said I have a a two a a tire patch kit and I also have a tube. Let's go inflate the tube and see if it's going to line up to like where the valve stem would be on a rim. that a lot of times that's what the issue is. Sometimes the valve stems come out on an angle like this.

sometimes they're straight, sometimes they're in the middle. You guys see how it lines up with the rim. so let's go grab that. fill it up with air.

Looks kind of tight in the center. I think I got the wrong one. The donut hole in the middle is uh I think for 8 in Rim I probably read it wrong. it's probably supposed to be a 812 instead of 12.

What? I do? Yeah, the rim is uh 25x 8X 12 I think I got a 25. Uh, 12x8 seems to be more the thing I don't know if that would fit around the center of that. Rim I'm kind of doubting it. Let's go look where that valve stem is.

It may have made a decision for us, maybe not. If you're able to get it over the tire, it might be okay. So the valve stem is what the issue is going to be. It's going to want to point that way much more if we try making that like that.
Unfortunately I think that's going to fatigue over time and blow out, so not not ideal. I'm thinking I have a tire I Remember I Even like there was a free pile, of course, there was a free pile of these rims and tires. I Remember seeing them somewhere and we took them. I I think we put the tires on the four-wheel on the, um, the little mini truck and I thought possibly maybe we had a spare Dunlop around that size I might have to go looking I think carb is soaked long enough.

Let's get that out of there. We'll rinse it off of water. see how it looks toasty. looks pretty clean.

good. See how the bowl looks right when it ended. Timing was impeccable. Yeah, it looks pretty good.

We'll go clean all that out. So let's do that carb back together. You guys watch a long time. It's getting monotonous, but we got that stripped out screw.

Let's see if we can make that into a uh flat tip I have to use a Dremel cut it right in half. We need a ton. It's not like it's getting cranked down on that much. that good.

That should do it I forgot which which one of the four holes it goes in. well that's all back together I think I'm going to I still kind of would like to pressure wash the machine or U steam clean it again. we now we have no Tire on probably should just filled it up with there did that first but you know hindsight. I'm going to go uh shop at the house and see if I have that tire that I was talking about for that machine and then we'll pick this up again tomorrow.

but for you it'll be just a couple of seconds. Yeah I thought I had another one in my stash. This is a stock tire assembly office a 2003 Suzuki Vincent that I have and I put oversized tires on it. It does seem to be holding air but it does have I was looking at it it those cracks worse than the other Tire in the sidewall.

so I'm just going to throw this on there enough. we throw the bolts on it and I'll I'm going to push it outside like I said I want to steam clean it? get all the crap off of it while half the Plastics are out of the way and and whatnot. So let's go get that knocked out. I'll let it dry while I go to lunch and then we can kind of continue on and pick away.

just kind of going over over. you know tuneup stuff that you know I'm sure hasn't been done in the 20 years that it's been ridden. Give her a little under bath too. First roller that looks better.

the Plastics even look better. Little bit of heat gets in them and kind of gets rid of some of the the white styra that happen over time. So engine I'm going let it go dry out a little bit more I took the rag out of the intake but you know there's still puddles and stuff inside it. Let's go screw with that tire and I want to let that sit and see if it holds air and then we'll jump on.
probably adjusting the valves and getting the car back on it, getting her back together. Oh I got to get an oil filter for it too. Go run before they close hit that rim with the wire wheel. Get rid of all that crap that's on it cuz that's a lot of times that's where it's going to leak.

Like I said right there. all the um, the sand and everything when you go to make a a turn gets the bead get rolls over a little bit, dirt gets in there, kind of grinds itself away. This doesn't look too beat up, not for a four-wheeler anyway. A Well, there's not much of a rubber coating on the inside.

No wonder why it leaks so easy. It's just like a skim coat just allows it to go right through the pores. I'm going to scuff that up a little bit. We'll get a glue and some patch on and I'm going to do that three more times.

Tight quarters. suck it in and don't miss. Wish I had like a little um wallpaper roller actually I might clear stuff on the back and come off that's not really hurting anything. Do that.

three more times. those who hoard Will Conquer Their world guess another trick too I'd like to try and we find it. this leaks. Maybe we'll do that.

They take um. one was a motor oil you put inside it. kind of like makes the the pores of the of the uh rubber get like gooey and it clogs itself up. and I think um under, uh like soft undercoating, hard under coating you spray on the inside of the tire and it just kind of makes like a permanent soft seal.

I Hurt this tire All right? I'm going to do that a little bit more and we'll pop it back on and throw some air in it. see what we get. And number three, remember kids, you Do and you you'd set them on fire. You put the glue on and you would light it and kind of blow it out.

It's not a tube, not a tire, but still kind of the same idea. I think I need that just a little thicker than like a a tube patch? My only concern is like you didn't see an obvious crack on the inside where the air was leaking through so it it could have been leaking like from over here. Got a leak under between the Rubber and leaked down in there I Don't know that for a fact, but it would have been much more, um, convincing if we saw something that was something we were patching over. Really good thing they're fairly large so they are covering a a fairly decent amount.

All right. I'm going to go clean this bead up I'll get the tire back on the rim, will pop it up with air and we'll give her some sprays and see what it does. This was what is run around the outside edge. kind of helps it seal a little bit more.

I said at like 5 PSI really low hopefully I See cracks all around it though I Have a feeling this tire is, uh, not long for this world. Place your bets. Let that set up a couple minutes. Hopefully going get big puddles.

was one there there and there? All right, we'll give it a couple minutes. It's been a couple of minutes and it does look like very light on that, but it is leaking and the same on that one. Nothing like what it was doing before this one. I Don't think it's doing anything.
looks pretty good around the crack. I Don't see anything happening but that one. That one's probably the worst one right there. I May go and do the um oil I may try shooting oil in it again.

We already have another sprayer wheel to put on this, but I'm probably going to go on eBay and try to find another used tire. You kind of want them worn about the same. You put a new tire. you know either that or you put new tires all the way around beaten up on a four-wheel drive.

not so much on a four-wheel cuzz. you most of the time you're in dirt so doesn't really fight the uh, the gearbox. but like if you're on a truck on the road, you put two new tires on the front and left the old ones on the back or vice versa. It will cause an issue like I Got to whack it a little with a hammer here too.

the beads leaking very minute. Oh well. we tried right. See that take care of that part of it just allows the rubber to move around a little bit and kind of seat itself.

That's looking pretty good so it seems like it's drying up pretty well. I Think we want to just I'm going to change the oil and do some other stuff, but I want to check on the valve adjustments cuz again. I don't think it's ever been done I Have a feeling the oil's probably never even been changed in it. or at least the filter has.

uh, so there's supposed to be a little sight glass somewhere. it might be under the pull start or under here and we have to try to find top dead center. Once we find top dead center, we can, uh, pop the valve covers off and adjust them. So let me, uh, get something to buzz this off.

I Think it's under here and we'll go from there. There we go, there's a little cyclus. get a screwdriver, big screwdriver in there. get that plug out all right we get probably look for a te there should be a t for top dead center.

we'll get a socket on here. Do we even need it? Can we turn it by hand? Kind of. I'll try to line that line up and we got it. It's um, the crank spins twice for every time the cam shaft spins once.

so it's possibility you can be on a compression stroke uh, and or exhaust you could be. We just got to get it on the right one and I want to go look without even putting a wrench on it? Would you believe get some little light off of that? It is right on the T right now I couldn't have planned that I Don't know if I'm I'm the right one yet. Let's get this valve cover off and if the valve has play in it, we know we're on the right one. If not, we have to go around another.

Revolution Well, I don't think I was that lucky either that that Gap is totally closed. So let's go try to I'm going to take a little Sharpie and Mark that outer flywheel. so I know where it is and we'll rotate that around. Yeah, you can see the valve moving I got to get a ratchet.
put it on there. Here we go now. we got the play. It feels a little on the tight side.

Grab my light to look in the peee hole right there. All right, let me go grab some Fel gauges and we see what we got. Generally if the valves go, uh, if the vales are loose, really doesn't do much damage to the engine. it cut down performance be a little clacky, that kind of thing.

The damage happens if they get too tight, it'll end up burning a valve. There's not enough clear um, ceiling going around the valve. Eventually, if you get rid of all that, play alt together, especially when it warms up. A lot of times the uh Gap can close up on you and uh, you'll end up.

burning a valve. So that's why we're kind of checking on these. They again probably haven't been done in 20 years, so it's actually a fairly H tight spec on it. It's a two to four out.

Here's a three. three is real loose. Let's go see cold again. It does change over time.

Let's go. here's a seven kind of figure out where we are Seven's all right. How about a five might be just fine. I would think this thing has that much uh, use on it neither.

Here's a four. Yeah, so four at the top of the spec I'd rather leave it a little on the loose side like I said cuz that's that's you're on the safer part of it. So I get to go do the same on the bottom. The bottom spec I think was uh, four to six th and I'm not going to get you be able to get in here in the film because it's on the other side down below.

I'm probably going to go through that wheel well and get it off of there, but just wanted to check it make sure that it was good. Sure old Ring's okay. we're not going to do anything with that. Awesome.

You know if I didn't check it, it would be an issue. Yeah, so the bottom one is six was really loose. I Got an eight in there right now and eight got drag on it. So between six and eight seven is probably right where it is.

right on the money, so that one seems out pretty good. Just pissed. A little bit of oil on the exhaust should make for a good little smoke show when we fire it up. All right.

I think I'm going to start to button some stuff up I was going to change the oil, but maybe what we'll do is kind of run it to get like the crap floating up in the oil. But I'm going to button up I got to know you know, rinse out the gas tank, put some fresh fuel in it. uh, we with the carb and everything back on it. hopefully try to get it running um and then due to fluids but I also want to pull this cover off? probably and we'll take a quick look at the belt setup, especially if was used for plowing.

Sometimes you have a tendency to uh, if you're stuck in one spot you can. You can smoke a belt in a location so we'll just take a peek at that. Got my throttle cable whipped back in there see if we can get that out there. nice way together, easier than it came apart, the fuel systems all back together.
we got some gas in the tank, let's go clicker over to reserve and hopefully nothing pisses out of the bottom of that float. So far, so good. Let's um, it should be in park I think I clicked it in. Let's go up top and we'll give her some choke.

and I think we have to hit the brake too for it to be able to go. Let's turn that key on. Don't see any power lights? let's go see what happens again. I think I have to hit the brake.

Let's try that. Let going go wiggle the shif that around. Yeah now now the park light's on. let's go give her some choke have on aisle I probably have adjust the idle speed I Just kind of guessed where it was.

Let's see if it'll rev though. There we go that's just sitting on there got put the cover on good I Hop down. let's go turn that idle down. Get that oil I spilled it goes to the other side and that's just a that's just the stop on that throttle.

Sometimes when it idles it'll show like a any kind of mist to we still don't have the air cleaner box on it so it can affect it a little. Leave it right there for now. See what I mean by that air fuel mix screw is up up up under there on next to possible they try to tweak it there it is right right there. This they should put something like that on it.

Then again like once it's set it really shouldn't. Unless the carbs getting dirty it really shouldn't change. Give her let's burp the thrott a couple of times. loud with no airbox on it.

Get that out of Harm's Way it doesn't melt. uhoh I do see a little bit of gas it looks like I wonder if it's the seal on the flo pole and that's what on that you going to hit that with an air gun? Turn that up a little I hit that with an air gun. see if we're still seeping going through there or not. My light's Bing out yeah I kind of wished I had a new seal I thought I had a kit for it but I didn't All right I'm GNA open the door.

we're going to let her kind of air out I want to get it warm and it will change that oil that's in there again. I just want to get it to mix around a little bit. Yeah, it's seeping a little bit. Oh well.

Kill that and I'm going to let it run for about 5 or 10 minutes. I'm going to open the door, turn the fans on and we'll uh, get the oil pissing out of it. So it does have a fan. It's liquid cool.

there's a fan right there. I Don't know if it's going to be able to sit here idling to get up to temperature enough. You can see it's burning off some of the moisture from us. uh, steam cleaning it? Like to see if that's part of the circuit still works? You know, probably works off it.

Like that temp sensor right there? Wonder if we can ground it out? That's all that's doing that's just goes to ground. If that's the one that controls it, we can try it. Let's see, we can ground it now. that might just turn.
Oh that turns the light on on the dash for over temp. I Can get up there to show you that's looking right there I is see the light turning on and off. Go. That's what that is.

It may have one on the radiator itself. Get that back in there. So for shits and giggles I Reached in there I don't know if I can do it now. I Tried to turn the blade of the fan and that blade is locked up.

That fan ises not turn at all. That motor is just totally seized I Know you can see like nothing in there, so kind of keep that in mind. At least it has the thing on the dash. It let us kind of know that we're over temping, but that's something we're going to have to probably order a fan for that.

Holy that took some effort. It's first annual oil change. Yep, I Would definitely say it was do that. looks like a B P.

Hope it slows down. Yeah like it hold about two three quarts plus the oil filter. Got to go fishing. It's in there somewhere.

Look at size of that plug. holy wonder if it has a cart. Yeah there's a spring but then look like has a a screen inside that to catch any goo. I don't see any metal particles in it so that's a good sign.

It's good for the nails. Was able to chase it to a Wix filter. 51 358 for the Future Let's Go date. this thing I'm going that I know was on.

it might have been the original one. It's kind of dragging on a little bit I was trying to hurry things up and go over. you know looking at brake pads and everything seems okay. Fluids on the differential sees are good and of course like we talked about getting that belt off of there and I was like I was going to kind of like blow it off and see.

we'll just see how it performs, see if we have any vibrations we'll know if it's an issue. but as I was doing that I was looking I don't know we going be able to see it. so you see that thing right there. Well there's a boot that's the intake air intake for get you up in there.

that is the air intake for the uh where the belt is and if that is not sealed on there which it is not, water can get up inside there and as soon as you go through a puddle the belt gets wet and then you're just kind of dead in the water. You got to pull a drain plug and get it to drain out. So unfortunately I have to kind of go in there anyway. Let's get this little excess cover off.

Um, to get that cover off, we got to get this running board assembly out of the way. and of course you're dealing with old rotted hardware and everything. So I don't know how well some of that stuff is going to want to play well and come off of there. I know you want to see inside there though, don't you? Yeah, we'll see.

Let's go get this little cover off first. That's giving us the uh, that's the Hydraulics for the rear brake, but the boot is behind here. We could probably grab it and get it worked into place. but I don't know I'm going to try.
I'm going to see what if if we start getting a bunch of these that start spinning I'm going to let it go. We'll just work on getting that boot back up on its location. but I really would like to kind of clean up in there and give it an eyeball so we'll see. Uh yeah, that's what I was figuring and there's no real good way to get you know oil up inside there.

You're not. Whatever their issues are, their issues are. You're not going to get them to uh to free up. try putting heat on.

This is all plastic. you're just going to melt it. So I'm G to do my best to get that boot back onto there to stop that from happening and we'll just find out on the road test get you up in there now. you can see it by the amount of dirt that's in there that's been off for a long time, so at some point it probably should need to be done.

But I don't have a belt for it right now anyway. so I don't want to try tearing it all apart just for that. I think we're kind of running long on time anyway. so I'm trying to, you know, speed things up I wanted to redo the front of this and uh, you know, maybe try to come up with a better solution.

I think the the winch really should be down here for not using the plow you don't want to pull. you want the cable pulling down? you really a lot of times want to be pulling yourself up out of a mud hole so it actually looks like there's some mounting spots for where one would be again for another day. Let me see if I can get that wheeled back on there and get a tire on it. Well I Must say that right there was the painy ass because this piece of plastic just did not want to come forward enough over here.

I'll show you why. So that's the hose on this side coming up and that one's all the way up to up here and that's where it sucks. uh Breeze air into the um, that belt cover. hence trying to keep that whole thing dry unless you really swamp it.

So I had to go take the Um speedometer cable out of from behind there. it just could not go enough forward and even with that I still put a heavy tie wrap on her I got to just go rerun the throttle cable, throttle, cable, speedometer cable up through and hook it back up to the dash and kind of tuck it back out of the way. But uh yeah, it looks like it was an issue for a while because you can kind of see where the tire has some rub marks on it. So I'm going to rotate this so it's hidden back inside there and clip that off of there right.

Other than putting the seat on, it's pretty much all buttoned up. you get old, you can't see the the markings that they put on there. So kind to increase our eyeballs I probably should color in the the arrow also. and that one piece that plastic that I found that was sitting in here.
My guess is it goes here and they took it off just because the wies going off for the um, the winch in the front was interfering with it. We'll just leave it like that. I'm going to throw the tool kit back in it, plop the seat on it. I'm going to go actually put it in my truck.

We'll take it to some trails and hopefully don't break down. Hey guys, it's the next morning and last night I tried to run it around by the shop and I did but it was just too dark. do any filming. probably should have anyway.

So I ran it on the pavement. it hooks up good. it would screw it like literally lift the front hires off the ground. about 2 or 3 in and um, went sampit did some donuts with it, you know, beat on it a little.

Everything seemed like it was doing fine. Four-wheel drive worked and functioned correctly. Brakes were nice. the CVT transmission shifted well, no issues with that.

but so it was too dark last night and I put it on my truck and I brought it to where we going go ride it in the trails. I figured we go for a little uh Jaun in the woods it's fall, the leaves are coming down and go find ourselves a nice little Pond or something to park and you know after about 5 or 10 minutes a video we can uh do our sign off. Unfortunately it's uh having an issue and I don't know it's the same issue that it was before but I'll I'll show you so firsts like a kitten, then nothing. Kind of like what it was doing before.

but before you couldn't even move the machine like you could ride it, it'll probably go up to about 15 20 M hour but it'll just rev. you know starts breaking up my thought. possibly what happened before I even say that. So I tried draining the fuel in the car.

It's got like there's a a bleeder on the bottom where you can drain the flo the fuel ballb and possibly if there's water or something like that in or debris it'll drain itself out. Made no difference whatsoever. So my thought is when I backed it off the trailer and I put it in reverse and I think possibly it may have a um governor of sorts in Reverse it doesn't allow it to rev very high and maybe one of those switches are stuck and it's not allowing it to rev at a high. RPM I would think though the reverse light would stay on if that was the case.

I I Don't have answers right now. So although we would like to have done a trail ride on the end and you know Kumbaya party but uh it's just not going to happen. It does not want to well play well, it's going to fight us I Guess this is going to be a a part two we have other things to kind of go address. Anyway, the Uh winch set up on the front.

We got the fan that's frozen for the uh cooling. although in cooler weather it would be fine but for like now. uh in the summertime if you were doing a lot of slow riding you'd probably have a good chance of cooking a motor. So at Le have to go address that got tire that going down and the winch relocating down lower on the the frame in the front.
There maybe make a little bit beefier front end on it but that will be for another video. Not this one. All right guys. Unfortunately this is going to be the sign off I Do want to thank you all for kind of hanging out with me, having a little bit of fun trying to figure stuff out and uh, this one just wants to put up a little bit of more of a fight than usual.

Well till then I'll see you later and try that. Told you that's what was wrong with it.

Had 2 green versions, one with discs and one with drums, the drum version wouldn’t stop well but both great bikes that went in all weathers

That's cool. Should flip the steering linkage to the front to give your feet some room tho?

Never mind the tire. What's that old pedal car?

When I was a young teen back in the '50s I bought a used Zundapp motorbike. Among several problems, the one that concerned me the most was the rear tire was worn right down to exposed cords. Not having the money for new tires, I had the idea to coat the cords with some type of glue in order to keep the cords from rotting or being abraded any further. My parents had a small bottle of contact cement, so I used that, applying several coats. I rode that motorbike daily for several years and that cement held up just fine.

Recently a neighbor asked me if I could patch a tubeless golf cart tire that had three holes in it. I first tried regular tire plugs but the golf cart tire carcass was too thin for the plugs to work successfully. I had some old car tire tubes that I figured I could cut to make patches for the inside of the tire. Remembering my success with using contact cement to bond to the rubber tires of my old motorbike, I applied a generous coating to the innertube patch, as well as the inside of the cart tire, applied the patch, then added another coat of cement over the whole patch area. Remounted the tire, aired it up and voila, no leak, even a year later! Contact cement to the rescue once again!👍

Gotta love those CVT's Mustie. I am working on the same project again as you are. Last year they needed a steering shaft put on since the original was bent pretty bad. Also needed carb work and a total fuel system cleaning. Now the machine is back again, but I believe this time it's the one way bearing. It felt like the starter was going out, but then when I try to pull the recoil, it feels like I am pulling the whole engine and I can hear quite a few gears turning as well. Your machine is in much better shape that this one. I remember that you worked on another one that involved the one way bearing?

I have seen people use tea strainers (the closable ball of wire mesh) for ultra sonically cleaning small parts.

Quick tip: you can get "balls" made from stainless steel screen to put tiny carb parts in a bath. They are sold for brewing loose leaf tea.

I had an eighties model Virago -750 that had been taken over by Gremlins. The carbs were constantly giving me trouble and even the Yamaha dealer couldn’t figure it out. I unloaded that piece of (expletive deleted) as fast as I could. Good luck with that younger cousin you have there!
