I picked up this old compressor in unknown condition from a friend that purchased a building with this inside, well we powered it up and it rod knocked real bad. we fixed that up by changing out the compressor head for a new one, but lets see what failed in the old one.

I liked that you found out what the knock was instead of guessing. I never had a compressor- pump apart, so it was interesting. Thanks

Itโ€™s probably dust from a defect filter

Hi, could I know the dimensions of the 2 pulleys? Thank you

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Roy Clark says:

The reason that side runs hotter is because it's furthest away from the pulley fan.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dr Lightman says:

How did you loose and tighten the pulley bolt if the shaft it all round and has no place to lock it with other wrench while tightening the bolt for the pulley?

2 stroke motorcycle engines used reed valves. It's just a maintenance item.

Fascinating. Noticed that the bad cylinder was the side away from the fan.

the bearings always see good on the pully side on these compressors, the heat can dissipate on the cooler bit of crank shaft sticking out the block, also the pully can suck some heat away, other side the heat just stays there…

Perhaps the machine wasn,t sitting level after running an vibrating so long making the oil only reach one cylinder with a greater amount an very little to the other.

Look at how black the oil is, they never changed it

I have a compressor, with 2 pistons, and it heats up quickly at the top. I rectified part of the valves, to be perfectly straight, I put other gaskets, it still heats up. what should I check?
    Thanks
