Way late now (and certainly Sunday morning quarterbacking) but I'd have left the captain's side grate alone and mounted the engine compartment exhaust fan under the passenger's side bench.
I had a friend in michigan with one of those but it was a 6 week drive.
Mustie, we really needed a spotlight down into that underseat vent.

How about a light in bilge
It's a boat. You forgot Nav lights.
That space for the fan looks like a range hood / microwave fan would fit perfectly
How about a low curved windscreen made to look like those on 40's – 50's wooden speed boats ?
Is the beaver still alive
I'd like to see you test your bilge pump with a quart of water in the bottom, just to make sure it would pump the water out that high.
It was good to see that amphibious vehicle sitting in the back of Crusty.
Hope you have a water test and wear life jacket in case a big hole appears—LOL.
