Thanks for this! I'm pretty sure I have the exact same issue with one I just picked up. Signs of mouse nest, melted air filter housing, intake valve completely loose. I'm going to take off the head and see if I need a new one. This it's a great guide for me.

ANY IDEAS ON A KOHLER V TWIN PRO 26/27 HP SEIZED UP WELL MAINTAINED. MAG'S INTACT, WAS SURGING AT IDLE ONLY. NO VAPOR LOCK REMOVED PLUG, OIL NO METAL , NO LEAKS. I BELIEVE THIS MODEL IS PRE MODIFICATION.

To put the seat in, heat the head with a torch or oven and freeze the seat. Liquid N2 would be best, but any refrigerant or even the freezer would make insertion easier, due to thermal expansion/contraction. When the temperatures equalized, it would be very tight in itself, but peen it in like you did afterwards for extra insurance.

5 years ago the parts were very reasonable, today however, it can be cheaper to fix rather than replace. I had a Briggs where the intake valve guide moved and held the valve open, no compression. Took it to a Machine shop removed the guide, knurled it replaced and it worked great, he also did a valve job, it would have taken more than just lapping the valves to make them seat properly.

    Great video sir

Same deal with a Briggs valve seat on a borrowed small water pump on the beach at Nome Alaska in '05. Only tools were a cheap socket set found a few days earlier while driving an ATV on the beach. Gaskets were good, seat good and I carefully cleaned 'stuff' with gasoline. Seat went back in A-OK but no hammer or punch. Rock and a found 16d nail got the punching done.

That punching around the seat for a tighter fit is called a (Chicago Fit)…. Old Machinist term…..
