BTW, I always thought it was a silly name to name something "Super" when it doesn't go any faster. Nothing "Super" about the Super Beetle. However, I love a classic VW and I've owned a Super.
Sad old Buss
My first car was a powder blue super beetle w/sunroof, floor was shot, heater channel shot. Had to scrape the inside of the windshield in the winter. Had a rope tied around it so when you opened the doors the car didnt sag. was great, went anywhere. 94 mph down a big hill windows down. Used to place a few empty beer cans pinched a little in the sunroof, crank it open a little when driving and let them fly back on your buddies car…..good times.

So a radio plays music for FREE, you video tape FREE MUSIC. And you get in trouble ? With that logic how can you play your radio at all ? You don’t pay for any music that’s broadcast over the airwaves ( it’s free according to the FCC ).

I think the term you're looking for is "torsion bar." A twisting metal shaft that acts as a spring.
I was horrified when my sister bought a Super Beetle when they first came out in '71. They looked bloated to me.
