Mustie, you gave a very realistic opinion on deciding if it is worth to repair a car, or to cut your losses, sell it, and buy something else. I've seen way too many people get into similar situations with old cars that were better off scrapped than constantly repaired, patched and a money pit. They had more money than knowledge & common sense. The one thing I'd want to add to your comments is that the young fellow showed some poor judgement in buying that VW to begin with. He's young, cash strapped, has a baby, and using a patched together 44 year old car as his daily driver? He would have been much better off by buying a reasonably affordable late model used car to go to work & safely transport his family.
Lets do what you want to due at the speed at whitch you want to due it … What you think about that ? see ya later how long have you worked on vw myself since 72.,keep up the good work, keep em rollin . from the motor city mad man Thom
Must ie JT here just curious where you at Woodstock as always I'll say it I've been around a lot of mechanics and you my friend are definitely at the top of the Heap you have a great night take care buddy
no good overcapitalising a car to get it roadworthy. If you want a car that's got airconditioning then buy one with it in. Unless you have the technical knowledge, tools and garage like Mustie1 has.
Your assessment of how rusty cars can be time and money pits is spot on. I now live in a hot, dry climate and there are plenty of rust free cars available for restoration. They can still suck money from your wallet and time from your life, but they are a much place to start. I see cars in Las Vegas junkyards that would right-off-the-bat save the restorer hundreds of hours of work…no welding in pieces to the frame and replacing entire floor pans.
I like your videos no mater if its a vlog or a howto or just watching you work I almost always learn something I did not know before. So I say go with what you like if you feel vloggy then do it. 🙂

Great advice. I bought an apart Austin Healy 100-4 when I was 16 many years ago..live and learn, sometimes the hard way.
