My First car playground Experience was with put Double cabin.Same blue Color. I Def Remember the smell of the Cat and the black round knob of the shifter. Ans the giant Steeringwheel … . I was 5 Fears old. Must have been around 1972. Thats Why I Love Crusti so much. And watch the Musti1 Channel as such …
Man thats so cool that you could Talk to that former owners Son! So interesting what he remembered! That was Fun. Thank you Sir and Thank you Musti1! Vers cool ๐
Thanks for the full story of your VW wagon nice to see it will be preserved in its new home was wondering why you were selling or donating it congratulations.
Excellent. History retold. Reminds me of my dadโs 1964 vw bus. So much history made with that. He bought it new and put 350k miles on it. His goal was to get the engine to last over 100 k. Never happened. Suck a valve just shy of the goal. Second engine got jugged to 1600, with headers. Huge difference. 10 mph extra up this hill we lived nearby. Asked my dad why not get it rebuilt before it blows? Nope. Gotta go past 100k. Going to church, heard a loud bang then rattle and a butt ton of smoke. Lucky we were close to home. On start attempt nothin. Locked solid. Really hard for me not to laugh. I got the look. Cheap rebuild. Early seventies it was about $500. Shortly after had the trans rebuilt. That was in the area of $800. Sold that green bus for $1000 more than purchased new. Good memories. Cool that you extended Crusties life. Crustie and Mustie. ๐
My father had a typewriter sales & service shop in the โ60s. His shop truck was a split window. Maybe a โ64 year. It had the full van body with windows. He would remove the center seat to load inventory. It was lettered โButler Stationeryโ on the front. Iโd love to know where that truck is. He later had a newer one with the one piece windshield. Iโm guessing a 1968. It too was lettered with the business name. Seeing you run these old microbus VWs around brings back many memories.
Very neat that he was willing to share the company and family history with you. I'm glad he was so happy to see that the old VW is not only still around, but that you're driving it regularly and taking it to car shows. Us older folks value that kind of history, good job. Long live the Brookhaven Lumber name.
Great phone call and history on Crusty. Wish the old guy well. Hope he comes by
