now days the engine alone is worth $1000 us. That car would sell for $900-1200 in the PNW as of 2018

Did you not give it a thorough going over before you bought it? I would have, & I would've left it where it was.
It's in mint condition compaied to mine! But i'm going to rebuild the engin and keep driving it.
I'd have offered a lot less than $600. An empty gas tank and an inexperienced owner probably means a burnt out fuel pump.
But a fun video to watch, I think you are lucky they turned you down,
