its not that heavy but l used a floor jack, as far as the motor l think l used another floor jack with a 2×4 but dont recall it needing it as long as your motor mounts are good,
Yep, you are right on the high stall speed creating more heat, etc, but the reason for it in your car was that it was a fairly heavy car for a small motor and therefore to get it into the power range it used the smaller, though higher stall speed converter. It makes your transmission work less on takeoffs as in less stress and also helps the engine get into its power range quicker. Under normal driving conditions this was desirable for the heavier mustangs of the 70s-80s.
@queenofyeay But to be certain I'd research what the stock size converter the Mustie-stang should have… although I might still go for the larger converter, if it fits
@Busia1949 You are right, and wrong at the same time! A high stall speed converter is a bad thing on many counts, including gas mileage. A higher stall speed takes longer for the trans to grab and a slipping trans creates heat through friction, a bad thing for an automatic. High stall speed is for tons of power and torque to burn the rubber off the tires. I don't think the Mustie-stang is built for that or meant for that. If it's clean internally I'd go with the larger converter, if she fits!
That does'nt look bad to me. Usually when the clutch discs are slippen they turn purple/black or even charcoal black. Maybe it was a low oil/low oil pressure in the torque converter. If you can get it back together without any leaks i think she'll work great. Transmission shops often look for wear thats not even there and transmission oil does'nt last forever, it gets burnt and wont work in the t c . Good luck. Here in Minnesota automatic tranmissions work like shit when its 40-60 below zero.
@queenofyeay after I did the vid, I took all the pieces ver to the parts washer and cleaned the crap out of it, as it really needed it, but I need to grab a gasket set tomorrow,,,
Thank you for showing us what the inside of a Ford transmission looks like never seen one.
Should Read "Tore Down" There is nothing to gain from this video if you are wanting to know the "TEARDOWN PROCEDURE"
drill the holes bigger in the pump and the transmission will not fail again
