I believe, that lantern may have been used by the railroad, it should have a red lens that is missing
that light is a railroad switchman light… when he hops on the moving rail car he can put his arm thru the big hoop so he can hold on.

I'm not for sure but I'm pretty sure that's a railroad Lantern that's what that's for my dad had one that was electric that look just like that almost that's what the big handles for so you could swing it forward and the engineer that he's coupled the car or to come back and when to stop.
