No they don’t want them to last we are now in a disposable society now which sucks for us classic car folks who only drive a few hand full of miles a year tires now are supposed to replace after 5 years I heard but I’ve seen tires as old as 2 years dry rotting it’s pathetic

My uncle drove VWs in the 70s. He was a plumber for the city of Chicago parks dept. He installed Good Humor bells behind the front bumper. He used them if he had to go on one of the Lake Michigan beaches. People didn't pay attention to the horn but they would for Good Humor 😋

The reason why new tires don’t last is called “planned obsolescence”. Companies deliberately make inferior quality products so you, the consumer will buy them again. It’s all part of the real owners of this country fleecing you out of what they consider their money.

Don't know much about how the 70 beetles are built. It appears to be a unibody configuration. all that unibody rust would concern me.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ripcord says:

Damn, I woulda never thought of beating the tire to submission for stop a leak. Your King of Getting it done with nothing (of course adding your time, knowledge, and forethought to have 90% of the parts within an arms reach from hoarding the right things! Your stash is ridiculous.

That black, gummy paint under the rear arches is called 'schutz' or 'protection'…

The Germans were ahead. That computer style print for the date of manufacture looks way ahead of 1970.
