after buying this 1980s bobcat skid steer, we found that this engine was no good, then found it was too small, now a toro grounds keeper will give up its parts to save it or will it? lets find out.

Hey guys, and how's it going? Hey I Decided to take a break on the Ski Doo for a video or two. I'm waiting on parts and I'm waiting on some snow but no avail. We got other stuff to work on of course and that I'm going to bring the old skid steer out that we picked up during the summer. Quick backstory on it and we'll get into wrenching.

I bought this um non- running it would crank over. seemed like it was okay. The more we got into it found out the diesel engine had not enough compression to run and uh so pulled that out, pulled the engine apart. we kind of saw what was wrong with it.

It's actually sitting over here. take a quick peek and it is a Kabota three-cylinder diesel out of a what's called a Reaper unit and a reer unit is what is in a uh a refrigerator truck that runs the air conditioning on the trailer. The BS uh were kind of beat up. the Pistons the Rings were stuck in the Pistons.

it seemed like it was overheated was the guess on my part. Ended up ordering a rebuild kit for it I got that it was like 500 bucks or so. came with pretty much everything you need to go go through it but uh the problem I found was when I looked into it it's like 16 18 horsepower and back on the skid steer itself it's a Bobcat 642 I want to say and when I looked that up it was originally a gas powerered machine, not even diesel. So my guess gas engine blew up.

Somebody replaced it with that diesel that they had did. kind of a crappy installation. The exhaust was broken on it and I think it kind of ched itself to death on the uh in the engine compartment. I'll show you what I'm talking about.

Also, in the meantime I found some tires that were free on the side of the road six lug which is kind of rare or odd for skid steer and the tires. on this, the rims are mismatched. you can see the offset on those. so I think with those two, we'll be able to get four rims that are the correct ones and you know, whatever.

Best tires anyhow. moving along, we pulled the engine out of it and it is a nasty, sludgy, crappy mess that we need to kind of go do some cleaning on. So that's probably I go jump on. First you see up front there, it's probably got like two or three inches of just leaves and pine needles and mud and so I figured now is the time for us to try to get in here and get this knocked out.

I got a shirt on I could throw away cuz I Don't know if you ever dealt with diesel stuff but it is a mess you can see so they cut a hole with the exhaust right here, but it was kind of like going around the choking on itself. hence why it's you know, so nasty on the inside in there. So what am I going to replace it with You ask? good question. About two months ago on uh Facebook Marketplace this came along.

Oh what a specimen. I think it came from a golf course 72in wide M deck uh cutter and it also has a three three-cylinder K cabota engine on it. but the engine is 25 horsepower so it's like the same block I think I Hope we're going to find out and uh, that's what we're going to go put in here so that's for later. Let's concentrate on the machine itself and then we'll work on.
you know, getting that engine out and uh, trying to hopefully get that in here. Somebody made a bunch of modifications for this. all the stuff is sitting on the floor. They made a new base plate for it, they made an adapter to adapt to that uh, input shaft on the Hydraulics Again, that's getting ah hand of yourself.

So so the weather is decent I'm going to try taking a um, putting some gloves on and a garbage can. We just kind of dig out all the crap that is in here and maybe we'll be able to steam clean this and uh, make it a little bit nicer to work in because uh, we, we're going to have to do some work. we're going to have to, you know, make exhaust system for it. the radiator s uh setup that's on it.

We have to come up with some stuff and you know, So and it's the once the engine's in, you're never going to get back in there to go clean any of that crap out anyway. So without further Ado I'm going to go dig that out and maybe we'll fire up a steam cleaner. Oh yeah, there is white paint under there good Wonder know why diesel smells so nasty? It's it. the perfume that they put in it to make it I know they put coloring in so you don't use it like off-road diesel.

Well like Kosene doesn't really smell bad diesel though. Reminds me of being a kid. My job was to uh, clean out the cap box. you kind of like Let it go too far.

This is what it is. Think we're going to need an extended pooper scooper? Get back in there, grab the piece of metal and drill the hole in it I fig We can kind of at least get you know the majority of. It Forward I Don't want to dump too much crap in the driveway. Okay, that do find out all right.

let's go see how this works. It's like there's like a a bunch of hydraulic lines or something down low and sticks. I Think that's a stick? Yes it is. I Don't want to use my vacuum cleaner on I Want to make a mess out of that, but we'll keep whittling away.

What is that thing? that's a piece of metal? We'll hold on to that just in case it it's part of the machine. See this St You're not going to be able to see anything apparently back in your hole. All right. So it's actually next day.

Give it time to dry off and uh, looks pretty good. It didn't get rid of a bunch of the exhaust soot that is on there I don't if that wipes off or not. but yeah could if we wanted to with some soap. but at least it's not a greasy mess and we can kind of see like you know all the hoses and valves and something leaks.

or you know what's wired to what. we can at least tell where it goes. Looks like that wiring harness up. there's a little chopped into.

Then again, it went from gas to diesel. so so I think we should push this machine forward and get it out of our way. Maybe we'll screw around with this? This this thing is like a uh octopus that went through M mortise. It is, uh, just ungodly to try to move around.
It's ridiculously large for its size. so let's get the mower deck off of this thing. Probably will take the chains off if we'll just unbolt the bolts right here instead of trying to deal with those. So we unbolt those, the chain chain, unbolt the other one and the dry shaft should pull out of it.

and I Think that whole mower deck is on its wheel so we can kind of like roll it away, get out of uh Harm's Way and get us a little bit easier your package. Maybe we could pick that up with a forklift and um, get it out away from the wall. Woo. Watch your face on those, huh? Now we know that one's a mouth strap.

We'll do our best to stay out of harms away. She wants to go. You didn't give it a kick. it's almost there.

Ah, time for a pry bar. That one was nowhere near as fun as the other one. It has a dry shaft connected, but it's got a slip Yol on it. so as long as it's not rotted and rusted, should be able to pull apart should it's going.

Yeah, it's rusted on the there it goes Freedom brings it down about half its size. I'm going to go shove that out of our way and um, we'll start looking into that engine I Said next. Maybe we should probably get rid of that hood. Get out of our way.

My guess is this thing's going to lift out through the top. I'm pretty sure. uh, looks like we got a couple of bolts there for the pivots. No, we'll just take a couple of the out of the top.

Then on that piano hinge, flip it right over. Yeah, we'll buzz those out of there and we'll start looking into what we got. We could probably do let grab the light, should probably kind of test it in the machine. but the Hydraulics for the pump are all.

um, discombobulated. They are busted. Not sure who did that, it was me. You can see I r ripped the end of that thing that's facing right at us.

That right there had a hose on it and uh I picked it up with a forklift trying to move it I took out the oil filter on it also. so it pissed out all its fluid. So if we disconnect that drive shaft, that'll make all that stuff not doing anything pump not pumping so looks like we could probably break that that rag joint right there apart and it disconnect that drive shaft and me. we'll try looking to see what we got.

I Believe this engine goes in in the skid steer. this is going to be the back of it and this is going to be the front. Looks like it's got some kind of filter that comes off of here. Let's get this out of the way.

I Don't know if it's a um, a nut and bolt for the hood hinge. Oh it's a cover for the radiator. There you go. and yeah, nope, they're just self tappers.

Oh sure, they got one hidden behind there. that's that's got to come off ham it a little tight down there to go see, but it looks like this lever right here. you can kind of pop it in and out of gear that to run the PTO and looks like a, uh, a clutch throwout bearing of sorts. I'm still going to unbolt it.
we got to take it apart anyway cuz you want to get the engine out. So I'm P get you in there to film. but I'll probably take maybe all four of them out and get the. this is what's called the rag joint.

This thing that's a rag joint. hence. basically it's like a Hunker side wall from a tire with cords in it, right? Get: I'll get that out of the way. I Don't know if we need to remove this to get the engine out, but that's getting ahead of our I Kind of want to fire it up.

What does this belt run? This one's for this. What does that? Go to another pump or something? Yeah, that runs over to there. That might be the shaft that runs so that the other one runs a hydraulic pump and then that one looks like it runs the shaft that goes all the way to the front. That's probably the one that was running the mower deck.

Yeah, so that one goes all the way to there I Don't think we should fire it up with that flapping around to you. What's it got for? So we got a lever for the PTO on and off and is there another lever to turn the hydraulic pump on and off? H Is it? B I don't know. Got glove boxes? we just flip these up and look inside. Oh that whole cover comes off.

we we'll go deeper. I'm going to have to put you down I think where the battery is, some relays, some mice, some busted up wires corrosion can see. Actually maybe a little bit better access to to even get to that rag joint. Probably just get rid of that seat too.

huh? Looks like two bolts. Get those two out of. Get that Hunka Tetanus out of our way. Actually ended to take on both of them from both sides.

Is it got like a double rag joint that just gives flexibility, takes vibration out of it. Steering columns like a like a Volkswagen steering column with look like that. I Say next, let's go get this belt cover out of our way. Kind of like looks like it runs up across and back to the fan on a jack shaft to feed it.

We got one, two three so far. We'll see if it lets go after that and there's a couple more in the back. I think there was total three on the other side I Think that's it. There we go that Tad loose huh that Fan's busted too I Don't remember if the other one had a good fan on it? or not.

the blades are are broke on that. I don't there's anything else. Start starting us, stopping us from firing it up. Put that Drrive shaft that went to the front down there with that belt.

Well I Guess if we crank it over, it's not going to hurt we. we'll hear it flapping if it is in gear. I Think it's probably disengaged though because if that were the case, the more deck would have been running. Uh, let's go just do a quicky check on the oil of it.
wherever that is, You see it there it is. Oh nice and clean. huh? Judging by the outside of the machine, you wouldn't expect it too. Well, let me go wipe that off.

Yeah, you wouldn't expect, um, maintenance to be a top priority on this. We'll change all that later, but let's just make sure it's got something in it. it does. Diesel gets kind of crappy quick.

Anyway, the oil. just the nature of it. All right. We got oil in it.

Not worried about cooling cuz I'm not going to run it that long. Uh, it's got glow plugs on it. Let's get a jumper pack we'll put on the battery I don't even know if the key works. If not, we'll just cross it right to the starter and we'll put a jumper wire going across.

What's it got for a kill? It's got a throttle on it. Let's go just hook a jumper pack to the battery. Let's go see if anything does anything. As far as the controls are concerned I got you backed up a little bit you can see anything weird happens.

Quitters come running out of it. Catch is on fire. you know. All right we got wrong.

Don't like it anything. Arc Nothing arked. Let's go turn the key on I don't if we have to hit any pedals or anything for safety, let's go see nothing. My guess you would try hitting a break.

would have like some kind of safety wouldn't it? Oh, you know what? Seat safety? let's try that. Nope. All right, let's go in. Um, we'll just jump it.

It's got a glow plug over here. Yeah, just go take that right out of there. We'll just run it off this right on the starter. We don't need power for it to run I believe on this diesel.

it's so old there might be a maybe a selenoid to shut it off. But all right. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to take the hot lead, connect it to here the ground on the battery pack. I'll just grounded something on the body and all we have to do is jump from here to here and it should crank it.

but then we'll need another jumper wire going up. We wanted to get it to run. My guess there should be glow plugs on it right there. These wires going across and we'd have to jump to them and get them to.

Glow Get a little bit of Heat going in it. This is just a jumper button. All it's got two wires going off and you pull the trigger. It just you know, closes the circuit like we talked about.

We just jumped across those two. See what we get? If anything there you go puffing, where's see where the throttle is. The oil light is on on the dash. Sounds like a fuel pump is running too.

Shuels in it. Yeah, it's got little pressure light on. it's on. Turtle Let's give it a hair a throttle just in case it needs it.

Let's keep cranking it. See, you can get it'll. go without the glow plugs. Where's the button? There it is.

How are we going to shut it off? Uh yeah. maybe we can. Let's go take the intake. Looks like somebody was already here ahead of us.
Let's go pull this off. Poss There's any Mouse in there. We want to suck it in there. We go there.

we can cup our hand over. if we have to stall it. Take it. Go there.

it goes. Nice sound, pretty good huh? Rrap it a little heing the on spot. see if it turns it off. Yeah.

charging system's working. Got a gas gauge. Get the hour meters moving W pun they draw on power, see if it'll shut off in a second. that's not off.

Pretty much what I was afraid of. Let's see if we can, uh, start out start to run with no air. There we go. good.

Seems like a decent engine, huh? uh. Oil light was out right? I remember looking at that I remember seeing it. uh. gas gauge I don't know if we have that much fuel in there.

the tank is right there and what else. Charging system was working so the component seemed like it was decent I don't know if we got coolant in it. You piss out underneath it. Let's go.

Um, grab a light I get it too hot I'm just screw around with it when it's hot Drop it like it's hot. No good. I Think that's a success. Let's um, start whittling it down a little more.

We got to get it out of there. We got to get the coolant drained. Let's maybe take that big ass Muffler out of there I'm not sure again what we're going to use and what not use when it goes to fit in there. so my guess is we should probably just pretty much strip it down to you know, the outer block and um, get it in place and maybe we'll try.

You know, how, where the alator going to go? what we going to use for a fan? how the exhaust is going to run that kind of thing. So let's get my desk is maybe we'll take those six bolts out of the manifold and what's got a bracket there? Yeah, we'll get those out. and um, then we'll start working with May draining the cooling and then getting this apparatus off of here. cuz we're not going to use any of that and that one's fighting me.

I'm going get a wrench on it, don't want to leave it to last. It's kind of like a bad habit. You know you take all the easy ones and then you suffer with the one that fought you and now the whole thing's hanging off of it. See, if not, is it already loose? No, you, it's got a different bolt in it there.

That's because it's metric and it's a 12 and I'm using a 13 or a half inch. The machine is uh, SAE the metric on the engine. How about now there you go I Think it should be free. Maybe try to save some gaskets if I can come off of that.

I do think I have an engine gasket set, but my thought is we may, uh, still try putting that smaller engine together at some point, use it for something else. But all right, let's go work on what do you think? this apparatus up here? Let's get rid of this belt. this pulley I can get in. So we got one bolt back here like a bracket going to the back and probably a couple in the front I See one here and one on the other side.
so look at that. looks like it's all one piece. Actually looks like it goes all the way down. you know, behind the the fly wheel.

It stopped right up there with those big nuts. It is the motor mount bracket going across. Uh, maybe it's got to kind of come off anyway. just trying to make it easier for it to get out of our way.

Let's um, let's unbolt. I'll get a floor jack underneath it. We'll hold the engine up with a floor jack. We'll take this motor mount out of our way.

and then I Think we can access those two bolts that hold the rest of this assembly on prob. get that belt off by hand, huh? I There's much hold in it. Maybe not. It's like right there there it is as I punch the light that actually I'll get that underneath there.

I Get that out. Probably easier to get the starter too when that bracket's out of the way. Think we can get that motor mount out of the way now? I Should be. Uh, just sitting there.

there we go. Yeah, now we can access the rest of them to get this upper part out of our way. I Think we got one Bolt left on that assembly. Wiggle that fan out of there.

All right. It's getting smaller, it is cold out, and we want to jump on next. It's got no motor mount in the front I think so. it's got two look like right down there on each side holding it to the body.

Might also get the starter out of our way, which we take those wires off. hopefully not break that connection that should come right out of there. We'll spray that with some Earl We got to get the coolant out of it, which is right there. It's kind of a dumb spot, huh? All right, we'll get a pan underneath.

we'll get that draining and while that's draining, maybe we'll jump on the starter and probably get the aler off of there. We got one. actually. top one's already out cuz of the other brackets.

we got one bolt there. and the wires. that's self-explanatory That's uh, maybe not. Come on living on the edge, huh? That's a little cook too, huh? And we get those two off of there.

Look, the let's get the CO going out of it. Actually anything in it? h There's that, maybe not. I'm get a pan underneath it and we'll open that valve up. See if anything pisses out.

go get rid of that that floor jack. There's like a a belly pan under the front with the it might sit on. Yeah, that way you get a decent pan under it. You definitely kind of suck if nothing comes out because there was water in it and it's uh, busted.

No green antifreeze? Awesome. We'll let that piss. I'm going to work on getting that starter out of there. Let get that a Fighting Chance Lot of times you want to hold on to the Um cable.

What happens is that post wants to spin and if you spin that post, it's junk. I'm guessing 13 mm. See if we can go find one. 13 Yes, No Yeah yes.

I Want to hold that I'm watching that back one that it doesn't spin cuz if you do, you're going to kill the starter. You're going to bust that out of there. I Think we got it good. We do have pretty much one of everything else because we got the engine that we took out, but I'd rather, um, be able to save that stuff because like I said, if we go to throw that rebuild kit in that I already bought into that engine, we're going to need all the starter and all that kind of thing.
TR think what would that be a good what can we put that in again? The fact it's only like 16 horsepower kind of like this be wouldn't be bad. in like a little tiny car or something like a mini car. Somebody was telling me that it's the same bolt pattern as like the Uh mini trucks. Not sure that though.

again there. I Have the battery pack. I Must have the battery pack hooked up or that battery's no good or the battery's good. Rather that's in it.

Yep, so if that's Arin the battery that's in this has life to it. Found that out the hard way? huh? Let's go. uh, disconnect that battery next. Huh? That means you probably could have just jumped it.

Is there a date on that battery? I Got a, um, one of those things you put across it. Let me go grab it real quick. I'll put it across it I'll see if that battery's any good. Yeah.

I would have given that thing much hope would have you. It's like a load tester. It's got like a toaster inside it, little coils that heats up and it's reading 12 13 volts. Then there's the test.

It's actually good. You hold it for 10 seconds. You see how far it craps out. like I said, it's got a toaster in it.

Know if it'll show you, put the light, maybe it'll glow red good. Can you smell it? smell? Actually you see it's still a little hair red right now. So the big wire is the one that puts the power out, but this is like the field wire. This is the one that kind of tells it to put the Power out and same thing I'm just kind of supporting this I Don't want that post to turn a lot of times.

They are supported by like ceramic on the inside cuz obviously U it couldn't be attached right to metal because that's where the power is isolating everything else around it. ground. Let see, get that off there. Throw the hardware back on there fact.

We're working with um, Metric and Standard so so we need a 12 mm on that I Think we can, uh, impact that one off. That one should just be a nut and bolt I think or a bolt there. Go. and the belt's going to fight this.

but let's see if we can get that out the belt off first. It is a bulk going right through. We got to get that out, but it's kind of Frozen in there. Let's go give her a couple of Love taps with uh A Hummer There it goes.

Now we should be able put that in. It's not a bushing, it's going to fall out a spacer bushing got her? Let's go give her a spin and listen to it. Good. It's quiet, no funky noises.
I I Just caught myself I Went from working on the start of taking the Uh alternator out of it and I started calling the wrong thing the wrong thing I Believe this is going to may be the power wire coming out used to bigger stuff on like a car. Uh, this is the power coming out and one of the field wires is probably going to be on these telling it what to do. Oops, you know. Happy already writing comments.

let's get the still pissing. let's go get the upper radiator hose off of it and maybe see if we can get this assembly out of our way. cuz you have to kind of come. you know, straight up with the engine.

it's going to be our own way. so we'll get that off. We let it piss a little bit longer and then I don't know if it's got a cooler. What? What is going on with that right there? I guess I Guess that's what it is, right? We're going to have to open that setup up.

Kind of sucks. think a chances are that's going to come out of there easy. Plus: I think it might be the um I'm going to have to unthread it from the other side. Hydraulic hose is like one side.

Sometimes one side spins in and you got to do one side first and then the other and either way it's got to come out. Then should be two. There should be one on the other side back in there behind that hose. corrosion there.

the inside. What more important disg. So it's a lower radiator who's out of our way. Seems like it's pretty much done pissing what it's going to piss.

um um like I said though, that fitting right there. that's the second one that you have to put on. so the other end Focus the other end would have to come apart. so if we follow that line where it goes It goes to the hydraulic pump.

Grab the light so that line goes right there to that pump and as you can see like that fitting will come undone because it has like a collar that'll unspin which is good. We could just leave it connected to the radiator. I'm undo that side and we still have to figure out where the other one goes which I think is going to be this line right here and possibly it might go down lower on the pump we have to get that one undone to for the other side of the radiator. if we can get those lines tucked up underneath when you EMB Bolt the radiator whole thing should be able to slide up out of our way.

I'm hoping. All right, let's get that one crack loose. see we can get that one a crack. There it goes.

I got another pan underneath it to collect the oil. Not sure what we're going to get out of it. Give me anything. There you go.

let's go find where the other line went. Okay, so the other one's kind of like what I suspect it's this one it runs up through I think I see a junction right underneath that spring forward about 6 in I'm going to go underneath, try to crack that one loose. Worst Cas You: we could always cut it but you know I rather not do that, especially if we could use it for you know, possibly something else that one goes up to a uh to the control valve which makes sense I already got cracked loose I think I got a couple of tie wraps I just got to cut and hopefully that stuff is. it's not flexible like a fuel line or radiator hose they are and we'll let that piss for a while and I'll try to work those lines out I Think we could probably lift that radiator up out of there once we unbolt it.
think I'll let that piss for a minute. that beefy M of those Springs Huh I wonder why that that bar flipped up so hard? Could we use those for something one Bolt left that one already fell out. Oh got everything again. Those hoses are going to want to try to fight a little bit I Guess maybe not.

Awesome good. let's go put this in a safe place. Kind of hope you can use this over again. It's the right size all right now.

we can see what's going on with that that belt setup that's in in there now. we going to get that. Probably take the belt off of the top of there and it's got that linkage going across. It looks like it's just mechanical I'm going to grab I think that was the lever that worked it right? Yeah, so that's all it is.

It's just like a hyperlink that tightens up on the Belt to drive the the mower deck. Huh? Looks like a little bit of a painy ass to change that belt though. If it failed, huh? you would had to get all that stuff apart. I Don't know if this comes off of here I Wonder if we can get the jam nuts off? Get that off I Wonder if this will just be able to slide right out of our way.

You think it'd be on a bearing right? Cuz it's got to be able to spin? I'll spr just pull the key right there. Yeah, we go pull that Cotter key. Get that arm up out of our way might be able just be able to go with it. We get the belt off of it.

one more click I Got to do that two handed I'm going to go get that out of the way. get this Rod off. Might even allow us to have this get closer to it. D that give us anything playwise.

You know what it is. It rubs against the brake shoe so that's as far as it's going to go. That way, there's a there's a brake shoe right there St shaft. If we can get it, you just have to get that belt off.

Everything else can stay. We can lift engine right up and out of there. Here we go. I Think we got it.

Yeah, that would definitely suck to have to go change that belt. I'm going look down here I think there's some more apparatus that's kind of holding some bracketry. Actually, it's the motor mount on this side, All right. So we got what we got the throttle cable to get rid of.

We got a wire for the temp sensor up here and I'm sure we got a glow plug wire to go deal with. I'm going to go chase a couple of things getting close that might even be able to wiggle out of there once we, uh like we lift the motor up. it may just be fine. So we went around took a bunch of yeah, the throttle cable off the uh, the wire for the glow plugs and I believe this one down here.
it was the supposed to be the fuel shut off when you turn the key off. probably fires the solenoid that shuts off Fuel and the last thing thing I was thinking was this one and it's a the temp sensor water temp but I was I was going to cut it and I'm like you know, actually kind of looks like a hose instead of a Um wire. Very heavy for like a water temp sensor. So let's go What you think that is 12? uh 13.

try again 17 mm guess no, no it's sloppy. Let's go with like uh, grab a 16 and or what's the standard comparison to that not 5. A next one up, 16 or 11 16. What's your thought? Let's try the 16.

We think it would be metric 16 this second time in my life I Used a 16 mm. see my guess it'd be kind of like a like a brake line on the end of it, like a flare on the other side. Wonder Know what the sense of that is? what? Remember Diesel doesn't need power to run. Maybe that's that's the reason any Freez is coming out.

Get out of there huh? Got Probe on the end of it. Yeah, good thing we didn't cut that. and yeah I don't know if there's any fluid going through the line. if does it just send like a hot air signal or maybe thermal? Uh, what's that wire called thermal wire that out of there? I Don't think the other setup had it.

I I Actually think other than two motor mounts, I think we're pretty much free to give her a lift. I Thought maybe we use the forklift. We'll hook a chain up to it. so we got that one this.

Big Red Bracket going across I don't know I see the motor mount on this side? Oh, that's a nut and bulk going all the way through. My guess is somewhere underneath there. Yeah there it is kind of tucked in right there we bolt. those two probably leave that bracket right behind, but we got to get the engine strapped up first.

I took the one of the brackets off. It's got a lift point right there, but I took one off of right here. I'm going go put that back on safety first. Let's see saying that ain't going anywhere just to keep the champing trying to slide off the end of the fork.

All right. So we still have two bolts stuck in a motor. M Let's go lift it up in the air a little bit and hopefully we can kind of like finagle them out. See if that's enough.

Shut that off. J You run out of propane right when you're ready to go through it. That's that one. good one more.

This one's kind of playing the tuck game a little more free. Thanks. So all right, your job. Yes, you have a job he still watching.

Make sure nothing binds. We got to lift that sucker up out of there. and to speak up if it does. If anything goes wrong, can blaming it on you ready leading something out? If that's just coolant or what is that fuel coolant? both we just have that connecting rod.
Yeah, it's just cool. Ping out of it. What a weird setup that is, huh? We got to get all that crap off of there. All right.

let's get her backed out of here and um, probably leave it up in the air a little bit. That should be just fine and we'll start digging some of the this crap off here that we don't need. Rest of it looks pretty good. Here's the other other bolt for the motor.

mount that and I think this one's got like a to the setup that we're going to go with was using that for the base plate. It's got four bolts on the side and my guess is I think it bolted to those. Maybe I hope if not we're going to have a lot of fabrication to do. but I think that is the setup that was in there.

Someone looks taller than the other one that was in worse my imagination. Let's go get the other engine and wheel it over here. Just kind of eyeball it real quick and make sure we got apples and apples. Yeah definitely not the same animal.

What? I read up on. They were kind of supposed to be like the same family like same block and it was just like a larger capacity to it. It's not looking like it. A lot of things are in the same locations, you know, like the Uh injection pumps and that kind of thing.

I Just wonder. My biggest thing is if the center of the crank probably look at the other end is going if we were able to get it on that base plate. My biggest concern is getting the center of the crank in the same place when it's mounted. make sense.

Maybe I I could be able to see cuz the uh grab a light. yeah you can see the difference in the cylinder head size. Alone look at the Uh plug compared to the plug on that one. yeah you definely see the why.

the horsepower rating is different. oil filters in a different location. um I think probably the biggest thing will be the adapter that bolted to this flange is what was connected to run the transmission. the the hydraulics in the skid steer.

Let's go grab that real quick. we'll see how that lines up to this. If not, you know the Project's going to get much more in depth. We could do them making a mount and all that kind of stuff but um it's got to be able to spin the yeah, it's kind I was afraid of know once we got out when it was in there it was really kind of hard to tell.

but I'm looking. this has a four bolt flange. I'll show you the flywheel was on the other motor in comparison. That's what was on there I don't know well the starter one.

you never reached it anyway. but so that's got a five bolt. This is that coupler that ran that transmission that somebody made and went off to go drive the back of that you have the pump. This is the input for the pump I Suppose we can make this fit on there but I don't know whatever else we are going to run into just due to the the girth of it.

You know what? I mean I Don't know if like we're going to run into clearance issues around here or not? Got to remember that's what was there so everything was tucked in a little tighter. Let's um, go look at the skid steer again and kind of eyeball that see if we can see what we're working with. Yeah, so this is how much room we're working with. Let's go see, get that on there.
All right. So that's the drive to run the pump. I'm going to go take a tape measure I I Have a feeling we're going to be down inside here. Let me go take a tape measure from Center Line of the bigger engine down to the um base of it and we'll see how much room we have.

I I Think the oil Pan's going to be be way down inside here though. I Don't know if we can move this can. we know we're kind of in the shade over here, but let's go see. All right.

So the oil pan is not including the drain plug. Let's call it seven. It's really about 6 and a half I think seven we'll use for a safety factor and look, get more than seven, but that is to the base 9 and a half to the center. roughly.

this is kind of, you know, kind of guesstimating on that. but see, we call 9 and2 let's go see if that um, base plate that was under there think's heavy as hell though. uh, would match up to that engine. so that's the base of the Cradle Whatever you want to call it that somebody made up.

you can see all the you know, the crappy Wells and stuff on it, but that's what was in there on the other one. looks like took some you know big ass angle and welded it to this base plate. This base plate may have been what was already on the skid. Steer from the gas motor and they modified it.

Let's go see how wide that is. seven and can we get a spot on here. It is like a 9 and a half. I Think let's go make sure I'm not grabbing on something.

that's um, let's go the other way. Yeah so it's like n and 1 half wide so that is not going to fit on that the way it stands. H We got a lot of work to do I may need to regroup and kind of think about this a little bit so we got to make that coupler fit. We don't have a base plate that fits I Think we have enough room in there to kind of go I Wonder if we should? We'll get some of the crap off the front of it for now.

See if you can get some of this junk off of here. and maybe while it's on the forklift, kind of go over and just put it in and shove in the hole and this kind of eyeball things. What do we have? We don't have a cradle for this, do we? It's just those bars going across right? Yeah. So we could steal this metal plate come off of that make what we need.

Flywheel was on this side so that could that would be the front one and whatever the back one was which I think is I don't know. that was that black bar that went across the the front. Wasn't it over the pile of junk? Yeah, right here. So it hung off of those we made.

Have to go do all of that all over again. Let me, um, take a minute. like I said, let me go get some of the junk off the front of this engine. Maybe we'll just go over and kind of shove her in the hole there and see if this is even going to be a viable outcome.
The other part too is how long is it all the jokes? Let's go with to the front of the water pump. Let's call it 20 and a half. Let's go see what 20 and a half will bring us. That is going to bring us right to the lip.

The door does have. Um, the door does. uh, does kick out though. The door's got probably about another five inches of depth to it.

So oh, she's going to be close. huh? Nothing goes easy. Oh I Got this off. It had a a snap ring on it that held it in place after.

I Got the um the front pulley off and I got this off H it with a wire wheel and now it's got three bolts on. I'm hoping that this shaft is part of this. Let's go find out. I Get in there.

I may need to get myself a thinner socket. that's one of them different. Oh, you suck? Uh yeah, let me try to get a thinner socket. definely not as much room getting on there.

Got it all right? Let's go. uh a couple. Love Tabs Yeah good. Awesome! See you.

it's out of here. good. That makes it much shorter too. Plus, we don't need this.

We can get rid of it all right now. Let's go. uh, forklift it over and uh, shove her in a hole unfortunately I can't use it like that because it's facing the wrong direction. Let's go set it down and see what I can do for trying to make some something something up top that we could Spin and fall over on us.

Yay! Go play! I Got to try to figure out something we could use to like make that spin on there. So look, got those fork extensions. They have a hole on the end of it I Wonder if we could just put a big bolt right through that hole? maybe right through the center of the chain and we can kind of spin it on that? That's what we're going with the chance is it picks up level n a chin. Awesome.

Let's go walk it forward. Slight operating difficulties. those me pop them out of the way I actually backed the machine up too. got really those ramps? see how close we are? Yeah, we're just trying to make sure that that everything the back is going to fit around the flywheel and all the hose is in the way.

but we'll at the idea you see better on this side Let's uh, shove that light up top maybe so we are already below the center line of that the engine can come up I don't know. 2 in maybe and get on that. let's go look underneath. Yeah cuz we're right on the oil pan right now.

which is good. See you figure Center of that pump or Center of that engine, we got to go up. It's going to bump it up about 2 in I Think we might be okay. a lot of work, but you know, know, as far as nothing major crashing into each other PR right about where it should go.

no that that hose is supposed to lay on the floor below it I think So we got a radiator to try to get in I think actually Factory radiator was was up top here. Motor mounts We have one that's going to go across there and down. We can catch that I'm not worri about that one. the back one.
What did that back one connect to? Again, this was the black one and the other one's still in the machine. I Guess we could always. Um, we have to. We can come off with something here.

Yeah, and come down. cut another hole for the drain plug for the oil to drain. All right. let's um I'm going to go grab that motor mount real quick.

We: that's not it. That's because this this would be the back one. That's why it's spun around so that would be the back bracket and the one that's still in the machine. The red one is the one that would come down All right.

Well, although I was planning on at least having this thing, we can kind of fire it up because I don't even know what the the condition of the skid steer I've I've on the starter I pushed the pedals and the levers and got the wheels to move and the bucket to go up and down. but that's it. So this might be uh, my elen ORS so to speak. but oh well.

it's such as life, right? You try the best you can and it's throws you for a loop. Sometimes it throws you for a loop. It just is what it is. Uh I think at this point I'm going to tap out I think our next step is we have to get that that four bolt flange that adapts the uh Universal to the rear to the U transmission or hydraulic pump whatever you want to call it and get that part of it squared away.

First that those two things can marry up. Once those can marry up, we can worry about trying to Center the engine and makeing brackets and all that and then you know, kind of building off from there. not to worried about throttle cable and that kind of thing. Those should be fairly easy.

Other thing I see being a bit a pain in the ass to trying to figure out how to get a radiator in a location and a fan to cool it? I guess possibly the fan part of it. We if we have to, we can do electric instead of running it off the motor again, that's getting ahead of our. where was the alternator? was it on this side? Is it right here? I Think so right? that would one belt that belt is that line up? Yeah. so hopefully the one belt will run the water pump in the alternator and then we just have to try to figure out again a fan and Cooling and all that kind of.

Again, that's a brainstorming for another day. all guys. Well we tried saying nothing ventured, nothing gained. The other option is uh to rebuild that little one and put it back in.

so I don't know what the future is I got to go see about what we need to do of getting a U that machined out and uh, you tap it's got to be fairly Stout You know it can't be wimpy, can't be sloppy, neither. It'll cause a lot of vibration so we have to make sure that it can, um, not, rip out of itself and handle the horsepower and the torque. wonder if I can get a tire? I'll back back out of there and set it back down on that tire. Yep,.

25 HP!? I'm no expert on that, I think you may need a little more.

Donor engine is a Mitsubishi, either a K3A or K3C model. Good engines for the most part. Poor parts availability (and expensive) in the U.S. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, it’s a lot of work or you can just go part with some of those greenbacks and buy one already finished which you’ll probably have to work on anyway lol

What you could do is rebuild the old engine, fit it to the mower and sell the mower. Good content and you get a few bucks for the mower.

    I’d rebuilt the old engine
