I’m not sure what you expected with a bunch of used bearings and a mismatched ring and pinion. Those gears are built as sets and you can almost never swap them.
One of the most impressive things about you is your disposition. I'd have thrown 14 temper fits doing what you just did here. Fighter pilots are like that. 🙂
Never cannibalize parts from one transaxle into another if you do not know 100% what the results are going to be; Ring gear and pinion gear are always a matched set, Never interchange! I had a few of these marathon/midnight maintenance episodes myself and the outcome is rarely a good one! Best to have a complete rebuild or good used transaxle and even an engine in reserve for our old crusty air coolers…!
