it stops them (or suppose to stop them ) from windsucking or cribbing. the bite down on something solid (like a wood post or door on stall) and suck the air in (its like if you were to bite on a pencil and suck in …. )
they do it out of boredom…. it's a bad habit that is difficult to break and its something other horses will pick up on.
a horse that cribs or windsucks has a chance of developing colic or ulcers in stomach
So the collar provides a lil shock (it works on some)
