Might be a bad wire on the alternator plug, not sending a signal to the PCM. Check out the wiring schematic & follow the wires back. Could be a case of the green crusties.
This is old but I figure my comment might help either you or someone else so here it goes. My wife was a sign maker which meant she also cut the vinyl type for lettering business vehicles. They use a product call Orange peel I believe. She spread it on liberally and waited, then with a plastic scraper she use to get the air bubbles and excess water from under the letters during an install she carefully scraped away all the glue, following up with Isopropyl alcohol. Never have I ever seen the paint damaged other than the paint around the letters faded as where the letters were the sun couldn't get to it. Like I said this was 2012 now it's 2019 better late than never. P.S I lost her 3 years ago this coming xmas.
Just for your info (I know it's a bit late) eucalyptus oil is a brilliant adhesive remover, tea tree oil is also pretty good but eucalyptus is best and won't damage your paint or most other surfaces. I'd check any plastics first but it is usually fine. Smells great as well. Available in Australia, I don't know about anywhere else.
