went out on our bulk Garbage cleanup week and scored a bunch of gas powered machines, this is the 1st one for us to work on, its a Generac 5500 generator, my guess is 5-10 years old, lets see why it was thrown out and can we fix it?
one mans junk is another mans treasure…

That was a cool little tool ive never seen one of those before
Easy assembly of legs n wheels. Now charging battery, will try to start it in morning.
My sister's generator (same model) did the same thing. I also found the plastical shut off valve to be leaking through, replaced it. I always shut the fuel off and run the carburetor dry. Run it at half load 20 minutes per month.
Cool score for a trash pick.
Great content. 👍
Can you find something else besides —— "ANOTHER GENERATOR "—– to work on?
Digging yir chicks and Billy! That motor purred after the valve adjustment. Chicken dinner.
On those generators, I just remove the fuel tank to drain it. It’s only 4 easily reached bolts. You can then hold the tank tipped right onto the corner so it drains completely.
It runs leave it alone this guy talking ALOT plus he does shit he don't have to
Thanks for the teaching lesson. So many people leave their equipment out in the rain. Thanks Mustie for showing us what to do.
watching these… 2nd one that I have lol. Mine leaks fuel-had it running but left it due to time-its about ready to be revisited! Thanks for the inspiration.
Hey Mustie1! Where would you start your approach if the unit runs but you get now power out of the outlets? I’m having this problem with a unit similar to this. Thanks! John
I wish I found your videos before messing around with my generator. I have a very similar one, visually it looks practically identical, but I can't get it to start.
After watching your videos I checked spark along with making sure the on/off switch works as expected. It has oil, I had opened the valve cover and cylinder head before watching videos and they seemed fine, I cleaned it a little anyway and installed new gaskets. Thoroughly cleaned the carb as well. After watching your videos I added some fuel directly through the plug hole, but that also didn't get it to start. The pull starter feels a bit stiff and hard to pull. It's easier to pull when the plug is removed. I did get a little smoke by the air filter after several pulls for what it's worth.
Have you had any videos that deal with flywheel issues or compression? The oil compression sensor may also be problematic but I would expect the generator ot at least briefly start if that was the case. Any points appreciated.
Looks like one I have in my barn. Only mine didn't come with a filter. It ran like a champ but no power output. Now after 19 years sitting around it needs carb work. The electrician I used to work with said to hook up a drill motor to an outlet and while the engine was running to spin the drill chuck while pulling the trigger. Said it probably lost the "exciter?circuit or whatever. That spinning the drill motor helps it get going again. Happened in '03 had to get another generator.
WIN WIN for Musty OUTSTANDING
The smaller Generac engines are made by Mitsubishi, however, if there is a pressurized oil system, the bulkhead where the oil pump is located is made by Generac, as Mitsubishi does no provide pressurized oil systems in their smaller utility engines.
