Hey mustie1 kind of pointless now that you built the bike. But to give you some information or why they drill those holes there. That's because most bicycles or powder-coated nowadays. And if they will hold it up and sealed it up once you put it in the oven it'll out gas where the welds are. Unless you're like perfect welder and seal up everything it'll still push air out somewhere and bubble the powder coating. But that's why they do that.
