Could you not put one chunk of the battery on either side, each in a bag, and just lengthen whatever wires there are between them?… Having all that weight on one side seems like it would be annoying.
The indicator on your handlebar probably just senses voltage. If two of the small wires run to it, then it should be possible to rig a simple voltage divider (or more complex electronics) to reduce the voltage at the indicator to the expected 24 volts maximum.

You have two videos, but no follow up/conclusion. I'm a mechanic, and do ok w small motors as well, but I can honestly say you've expanded my knowledge on the subject, like, 3 fold. I had this bike in a gold color it was stolen in the early 80s. I enjoy watching I actually learn a few things keep it up.
