It's not preaching, it's good advice I'm in the same boat 60 years old ,worked in trades and as a technician . I understand how you feel. Always love your videos. Cheers 😊
Hey Mustie! I just watched this video, 11 years later? Sorry, I’ve only subscribed about 6-8 months ago. Watching current videos, you seem to have done great with your back surgery!! Awesome!!! I worked in maintenance for 29 years before my back made me stop. I wish I would of taken it easy after my back surgeries. Had my first discectomy in 2005 then I was good for 10 years. Had another in 2015 by a doctor who was retiring and wasn’t interested in doing the surgery in the first place. Then two years later I was getting rods installed. Was worried about losing the job I had been at forever so I was back to work less than a month after my rods. Needless to say the bone graft never took and the rods have worn holes at the anchor points in my spine. I worked as long as I could before I just couldn’t. It’s very hard just turning 50 and already disabled. I have an option for a fourth surgery but am totally scared now. Worried I may not be walking at all next time?
Thanks mustie 1 I've got arthritis in my lower back & joints especially in the winter or whenever it's really cold outside or if I've been doing a lot of walking around town it hurts that much whatever the school hired me 2 do 4 them I haven't been able 2 work since I was 20 years old my brother says that it's all in my head but he's got a zigzag back so he shouldn't talk
Mid 60's now. Spent a good 40 yrs in new and remodel plumbing. I'm not a big man 5'2" and had to keep up with the big boys. I was good till I retired at 62. Since then all the beating has caught up with me. I always tried to work smart not hard. I learned all about leverage. I had to lift 1/2 or close to my body weight every week. So the short of it, now I took up flipping riding mowers. Still some lifting but in smart ways. Like he said, if you love what you do it isn't easy to walk away from it. I always fixed my own stuff if at all possible. I got tired of finishing the job I paid someone to do. But like he said, the lifts and a winch over head are a must even if you haven't got body stuff going on. Be safe and have fun.

Yes you have to think before you act I spent 35 years working as a rail road mechanic my body is shot Wish I know then what I know please take care of yours self and think before you act thanks for showing me your life and work is what makes me feel good
Well said sir I have gone through the same problems I had 3 bulged discs in my lower back which has left me with a permanent disability I abused myself when I was young ,work wise and sport
Man, you nailed it on this video. For me I was only in the trade for a couple of years but always had lung issues and knew what I loved wasn’t going to work long. I love fixing stuff but I knew it wasn’t going to profession
I took two years of technical school as a mechanic. Then I went in the Army as mechanic. Once I got out of the Army I worked with my father in law in his garage. However trucking got in my blood and I've been at it for 30 plus years. I'm now 55 and it's beating me up. At the end of the day it's what I do best.
I just came across your video in my news feed !! Great words of wisdom Sir !! I was a truck driver from 1963 till 2014 and quit when I turned 72 . At age 79 , i still like trying to repair my riding mowers and chainsaws, but i sure need a carb cleaner like you have !!I cut and split my firewood every year and enjoy the physical part of it but like you , my back is starting to complain . I just work slower now and try to pace myself so i don't burn out . Take care of yourself and keep on wrenching , we love learning from you !!
