Interesting, I was just there a couple of years ago on a visit to the NE! Do go back and pay for the tour. Very interesting history. I was NEVER used or intended in service, never had any torpedo tubes, for example. It was a prototype for the hull shape, as I recall, when most subs were more like ships that could submerge for a while, not very streamlined. Had several different tail/rudders/elevators, as well as different propellers, only one of which was the dual props. Hull had been cut in half and welded up a couple of times as well to get test equipment in and out (again, if memory serves).
It was actually floated to where it is! Great video in the museum. I heartily recommend going and paying for the tour, etc. if you're anywhere nearby.
Just imagine all the flatulence that has been trapped in that tin can. 🤣
Antique sub … will it run ?
Would counter-rotating screws produce more cavitation in a sub like this?
That was awesome. I've never seen where them guys sleep. Them things are like coffins.
But…what we all want to know is…will it run ?
brass props $$$$$$$

Choke? What ya think?
The USS Albacore was used as a test sub. Although it has a hull shaped like early skipjack class nuclear subs it had a diesel engine
isn't a sub called a boat? anyways..cool stuff tho…
of course, when i was aboard '67-'68, she didn't have screen doors on her starboard side…..
Where abouts in Portsmouth is this mate i would love to see her? And is she always open?
