I have a 71 conv first year of Super Beetle and mine support boxes are same as the ones you fixed. Can you tell me what size metal channel you used that fit that snuggle? Also where did you buy them? I have friend that has offered to attempt to repair mine like you have, I will help but need to get the channel first. Very comprehensive videos, thank you for making.

I guess its ok to delay the EOL of the Volkswagens. After all, Ferdinand Porche declared that they were designed in the war years. German engineering to face the lack of raw output of American industry. The war was lost in 1942. We will build Gustov and V2. Instead of Mark 4's. Mustie1 you can switch out a flat 4 1600 in 20-minute video. POS.

Amazing work Mustie1! I have a 73 super beetle convertible and the drivers side reinforcement rail is in bad shape. Much worse than the one in your video. I'm not a mechanic so I've got to do some research to help me decide what I want to have done. Thanks for your very helpful videos.

Thank u 4 ur videos, I've been watching 4 couple of years so far.
Is this repair going to effect the alignment in anyway??

"Frankenmustie" you can fix anything. Impressive.

Excellent repair! But my question is if the thickness of the metal patch you made would make it impossible to take the body off the frame if you ever needed to? I have similar rust issues on my 75 Super convertible, and I've already lifted the body off the frame. If I made a repair similar to yours, can the body fit back over the frame? Great video's, by the way!

I found this to be really disappointing, that you with all your skills would mutilate an old girl like this,, is sad. And you have knowing put the lives of owners/ users of this car at risk. Should that car take a hit, you know yourself it will not stand up to it. Your Chassis rail job looks beautiful and very strong but then you just joined it to the rubbish patches, that were not even welded on properly. But why you didn't just replace the channels with new ones right through,, (which are still available today) I just do not understand. and all those old patches under the front mudguard and behind the rear jack point, should have been removed because you know there is only rubbish behind them, from another "repair man" doing a similar botch up job. In none of this work has there been any sign of rust protection/ prevention used and as you said there are no drain holes. You intend to use oil on completion but even then you know unless it is replenished regularly it will fail, look at the number of old rusty oil cans around the world.
Put it this way here in NZ, if you were found to have done a job like this, when the car went for its 6 monthly warrant of fitness, it would be put off the road, and any structural repair work you did from then on, would have to be certified and have accompanying photos, of your efforts. Not to mention what happens if somebody was hurt through failure of those patches,, Not good.

I swear man, if you broke or lost that hammer, you'd probably cease to function!

Excellent video Mustie, you could have been a brilliant surgeon in another life.

If you ever decide to sell Mustie1 merchandise that hammer should be your logo. I wonder how many mowers, cars, and other equipment that this is responsible for repairing. Thor’s hammer isn’t as cool as that little body hammer.

What kind of mig welder did you use?
