A friend of mine has been dealing with holding his 1971 vw bus transmission by holding it in 4th h gear as he drives, now that the summer is over he brought it to me so it can get some tlc,, lets get wrenching and swap the transmission for a rebuilt one,
They make repair sleeve if there is a deep groove where seal rides.made by c r called speedy sleeve works really well

Always enjoy watching your videos. Great knowledge and entertainment ๐
They make a silicone hose in several different sizes,, to repair smog line…. You should be able to repair that with some of that…But with All you have just weld it in…
Do i hear a worn wheelbearing somwhere? sounds like front left side. Yeah I got good ears ๐
istn that usual the syncro that's "messed" up?
In the last part of the video in the dark looks like the driver side headlight is out of adjustment??
On VW bugs, I would take the engine loose, jack it up and put blocks under it, push the car forward to get it separated from the trans. Then I would jack up the engine, remove the tall blocks, lower it onto low profile blocks and then I would lift the car by the bumper, as though it was a barbell, and walk the body forward until the engine was behind the car and I would set the car down. When I realized I was strong enough to lift the '67 bug without the weight of the engine, I was amazed.
Yeah, they sell clutch alignment tools, but everyone I know, including me, use an old pilot shaft. If you've done a lot of car work you should have an old one somewhere.
wish I owned this
Hi. what kind and brand is lift you were using to lift your bus?
I love that you leave the mistakes in the video. It keeps it very real. great videos!
"I think its ground, im not positive"… i found it funny… ๐
Iโve done a clutch. Trust me. Mustie makes it look easy. It isnโt.
Back in 89 someone gave me a 73 bus for…..$1.00. I fixed little stuff that made a big difference, but it kept popping out of first, I had to hold it in.
I wish I had some good help to fix it, I ended up selling it for $500. Shoulda kept it. The mechanic I talked to said I would have to crack open the trans in half to replace the fork. I just didn't have the funds or tools then to get into it. Maybe you could make a video cracking open a trans to repair forks? now that it's 2022….Shoulda woulda coulda. These videos would have been so great in 89…..but then I didn't even have internet, or even a cell phone yet.
Great video mate, very entertaining, considering I have no experience with veedubs at all! Interesting the unique quirks & problems involved in an air-cooled vehicle. One thing though that surprised me. When you made the clamshell patch up for the preheat pipe, I thought you would have the split at the top & bottom. Then you could have first welded the inside of the back half to the ends that you had cut off square. Then you could easily weld the front half to the outside of the 2 ends, & weld up along the top & bottom splits.
As soon I knew you were going to weld up the hole in the pipe I wondered how you would get the welding torch 360 degrees around the pipes. Sure enough I was right! Scratch one for the novices!
