I went picking during the annual fall cleanup trash day. one of the things I found was this ratty mid 80s suzuki 230 atv. lets put it up on the bench and see if it can be brought back to run.

I just can't understand how some people throw vehicles like this in the trash
Even if I was stupid rich and wasn't a tinkerhead myself, I would definitely not throw it out, but maybe give it to a kid for free so they can learn how to fix it and ride it
But in this world nothing is free and you'll find ATVs in this condition for hundreds of dollars
That's why I don't get how you find them for free

Just for future reference, use a close hanger on something like this to hold the compression release open untill it starts then release it.

This is just Click bait! Those who think this man is a genius think again. Forcibly turning over that motor was a very stupid thing to do, the surface rust accumulated on the cylinder wall and debris from the piston would have scored the lining of the cylinder wall and piston, destroyed the sealing surface of the rings thus clogging up and or collapsing the oil rings. Even though he got the thing running it's going to blow a heap of smoke and inevitably seize which he will deceive you by not showing it or he'll just sell it and rip some poor bunny off.

For the job to be done properly the top end needed to be dismantled, inspected, cleaned and put back together with even the old gaskets if need be for testing.

Young people getting into repairing these things should stay clear of this man as he is not a good example!

It was in a flood at some point There’s algae and water in the fluids. That would explain why it’s locked up. Someone probably took it too deep and got it stuck and left it there for a while. All it takes is water in the exhaust to do that
