we are in the process of fixing up a 1965 vw karman ghia that has no engine. lets dig one out of our stash and see if we can bring it back to life. these were sitting in a damp basement for 30 years with an unknown condition, one of them will make it back into this low dollar driver, THIS IS NOT A RESTORATION, just having fun on the cheap. relax, grab a snack and enjoy wrenching in the garage with me.
Never had a Karmann Ghia… owned ever other kind of Volkswagen…. always wanted one… haven't gave up.. Maybe someday…
What did you do before you retired ?
Human carburetor
running a engine without a throttle is bad , it could blow the engine, so if you have to run a engine with out a carb i suggest making a slide valve on the carb mount so you can control the intake air plus a spray bottle with fuel could be better i think.
Was that rooting tooting Yosemite Sam in your garage shooting the place up !! Keep doing what you doing cause your one hell of a mechanic !!
A piece of cardboard work too, say a matchbook is always at 19.
It would be so much easier to adjust the points to the feeler gauge than the other way around. Open the points, put the feeler gauge in at 16 then close the points up.
Vicinity or proximity.
Grips the screw, encapsulates means to surround.
The people who ask that, have to have a road map and directions and both hands to find their Gluteus Maximas muscle.
Now I understand why you like VW's, you couldn't lift a real American engine and throw it around like that.
could we see this repair processes with toyota vvti engine, or you only specialized in VW engines and small engines ?
That slo-mode of the engine running at the end is just ace! 😀
At first glance I thought your helper was Marv from Home Alone…
Great sound effects at the end!
Good information I’ll keep I mind for an engine I bought used and not running. I especially like the weed trimmer gas idea… makes sense! Thanks Bro!!
That initial firing up of the engine ran like I do before coffee in the morning…so I give my Mr. Coffee a squirt of starter fluid and wahlah she fires over! ":-0
The VW motor is one of the easiest engines to work on…lots of fun. Dig the starter fixture…we used to take bell housing off a type 2 trans (it unbolts) and use it the same way…a test running stand.
