Nice example of making lemonade out of a lemon. Just because it doesn't run perfectly, this video shows that a mower is still quite usable in an imperfect condition. The new owner would have done well to invest in a new carb and would still have a bargain.
You're absolutely correct Musto: the idle circuit augments all positions of the carburetor and engine speeds. It is crucial for the entire rpm operation range. Setting the base timing, valve clearance and idle-speed/mixture and a fresh air filter?….everything else follows (two stroke, four stroke, v-8 or moped). Yeah, you can get it close (by ear), but if you want it to be EXACTLY the way that it designed: you gotta have a $15 tachometer. If the engine doesn't want to IDLE (or give snappy throttle response) that indicates that something else is WRONG! …or yir engine is getting old/worn. At that point , we accept its age and gitter going…EXACTLY THE WAY THAT YOU DELINEATED IN YOUR VIDEOS! I don't have massive yards, or a professional landscaping business: which require cordless, gas powered tools, that can run for hours without stopping. So I'm shifting to all battery powered equipment. Hey, they were punks at first, but they ROCK now.
I applaud your channel. I worked for the DOD fo 37 years. If they needed a new jet, did the DOD scrap it? No. They fixed or upgraded it. If they needed a new chopper, did they scrap the old one? No. They fixed it. It’s only the suppliers of parts that make repairing machines beyond economic repair.
Really enjoy your videos. If the smaller passages in the idle jet get clogged, can you unplug….. as I’m writing this you hauled out a group is small drill bits…..lol. Enough said.
But do you think that for the average guy who wants to learn, any of the info that you give us freely is available for learning or for study? Ummm… no. Or in printed form? No.
Mustie, I envy you. No one here in the south ever leaves free mower finds out here on their yards. They give those to their friends and someone figures out if it’s not the plug or the coil, it’s the carb!
Have you tried evapo rust in the ultrasonic?
Simple green
I enjoy watching your videos and wanted to thank you because you have helped me fix my lawn mower.

Drill out the jet.

Where was the idler jet and the mix screw and the idle jet.? Amazing!
The future belongs to those of us still willing to get our hands dirty.
Wow. No one ever throws out a rototiller. Grab it! Anything marked Honda, grab it!

Hard hats have a life of either 1 year or 5 years. Can't remember which. But I believe it has to do with sun damage.
